More Progress Another productive day in the garage - got my sills primered - made a plate to cover the original blower motor hole in the firewall and got that welded in place - welded up all of the original heater box holes (AC box takes different hole locations) - mixed up a batch of Rage Gold filler and blended eveything in - I'm going to wait until I roll the car outside in the driveway sand down the body filler (shouldn't be long before it rolls) - I did a little bit of sanding in the garage last week and just covered everything with the dust - the firewall keeps getting more and more smooth looking so it shouldn't look too bad when it's done - you can see from the photos that I still need to get to my torque box repairs - next on the list
It looks like you haven't finished welding the upper cowl panel back on. Is there something holding you back on that? Everything looks really good though.
Thanks John I am not going to weld it back in place but instead I'm going to use a 2 part panel adhesive - either SEM or 3M brand. I already bought the 2 part mixing gun from SEM. Now I just need to find a good price on the adhesive. I used a spot weld cutter to remove the cowl top but I could see that there was a lot of thinning of the metal from corrosion and I cleaned a lot of surface rust from the mating surface so welding it back will be a problem. The panel adhesive hopefully will do the trick
Oh ok. Try lord products Fusor. Thats what I used to bond mine back on. I haven't seen your gun but maybe it will work.
I usually clamp a piece of thick copper under the spot I want to weld and that will make it easier to do your plug weld and keep you from blowing a bigger hole. I have a couple of 3/4 copper couplers that I flatten. They are perfect for things like this. In case you didn't know. Your project is coming along great. Ford Carlisle is only 9 months away, You can make it.
