Humor us who doesn't have a paint code chart in front of us. Is 2m in the red family or ?? What name brand of paint are you lloking at? Reason I ask is because my friend painted his brother's Comet red with it took 7 quarts and it didn't cover too good...you can still see throught it. What he thought was a good deal costs twice as much and looks poor

WOW!! IIRC, I paid about $135/gallon for NASON urethane single stage. With activator and reducer I'd expect it would be well under $300. Only complaint I had with NASON was the color was off on Wimbledon White but the counter guy fixed it. But, I wasn't going for a concours paint job.

A recent BC/CC I did was about $1000 my costs (like $1800 list price) for 6 quarts of DuPont Chroma plus 1 gallon clear.

I don't think 3 quarts of whatever you are using will be enough. Specially if you are doing the door jambs and engine bay.

If money is a mojor factor, check out Trinity paints online. Costs are very low for what you get. While not a top shelf paint, it is fine for a budget driver car.

I just bought paint supplies weeks back. Heres my price, all Dupont/Nason. I did base coat-clear coat.

    2 part epoxy (Nason, 1 gallon primer, 1 gallon activator) - $190
    Highland green (Dupont, 1 gallon) - $160
    reducer (Dupont, 1 gallon) - $30
    urethane activator (Dupont, 1 gallon) - $36
    clear coat (nason, 1 gallon) - $78
    off white (Dupont, 2 quarts) - $64

total = just under $600 and some change.

$36 was for a gallon, this is through KOI refinishing in Lexington KY.

I listened and listened to what everyone had to say at the paint store, I went with the Dupont branded Highland Green as color matching was a concern of mine.
Other than that Nason went on fine and is priced well.

Have a friend who's painted his 3 Camaro's with PPG but always used Nason clear because he says it lays down much better and holds up just as well for half the price.

Wow, I wonder if we are talking about the same stuff. The activator I buy is like $50 a quart. Gloss hardener.

If it is the same stuff that is super cheap.

Must be cheaper, the last gallon of paint I had to buy, cost over $400, and that was just single stage paint for one of my service vans.

Price depends on color choice and paint brand...Heck I have spent close to 400.00 on primers on my project so far!!!
Reds and greens dont generally cover very well. I recommend tinting the sealer or final primer coat in a similar shade to aid coverage. Most sealers/primers can be tinted around 30 percent to aid coverage. (You use less paint this way too)
Cheaper paints will not have the same binders/tints as higher end paints...This will hurt durability/color fastness in the long run but...It will give you a nice paint job on the cheap in most cases.
When I get to the paint stage on my car, I'll spend about 900.00 on the reducers/activators,color and clear...I still have to buy sealer and have it tinted as well...Should be around 1400.00 to 1600.00 when its all over.

    2m is dark red.

no idea on the brand. I live in a small town and have to buy the paint through parts store. they get it shipped in. no paint mixing available in this town. Whatever they can get is what we get. Also in Canada, it is waterborne paint only. (don't know if that makes any difference.)
