It's been a busy summer, got the floor pans welded in, body work near completion almost ready for primer. I'm going to trim out the door jams/doors in Vermillion Orange. Question, since I'm painting the door (interior I'm talking about here) would it look better with an orange to carry the color across or paint the dashboard black?
Painting Dashboard Hi Blugene: Long time no write .. I was just reading about painting the dash.. Its important to consider the " reflection" of the color back onto the window when the bright sunshine strikes it .. I once seen a car with a light gold dash and it was blinding in the daytime .. Had to cover it with a towel .. I'd go with the black and highlight it any way you want . I'm re-doing my Comet here and the dash is going to be black. The color is " pull me over Red " .. See ya .. Cometized QUOTE=blugene;908712]I say orange with black accents like the pad and vents..[/QUOTE]
Cometized, good advice I did'nt think about that. Your right, I once test drove a Taurus that had a butterscotch/yellow dashboard...the sun reflected back bad. needless to say we didn't purchase the Taurus.
I would deal with the reflection IF it were to happen.. In the mean time I would choose what you want and be happy..
I agree on the orange but I would use a semi gloss clear over it this way a lot of the glare will be gone. Also I never have liked a high shine dash they clash with the rest of the interior imho but thats me.
I like the grain effect that the doors have so I am doing what ever it takes to keep it.. Being it has a type of grain effect, I painted my dash with hammered paint.. I think it came out pretty nice. Just wish I could enjoy looking at it while actually driving
I don't think glare is an issue on the verticle areas of the dash. I honestly don't think orange would be a problem on the dash pad either.
I guess it depends on the color of your interior also......................personally I like black. I restored a 68Z28 and rather than paint the dash semi-gloss black I used acrylic lacquer and painted/sanded/paint/sanded................and after 7 coats I stopped..................it was totally beautiful..............and never had any issue with reflection............because the rest of the interior was black also.
I'm thinking black up by window and the black dash pad, orange accent on the front and black on the bottom tray area. Acrylic lacquer, I'll try it.
Not sure if you know but that trim comes off fairley easy. Might put tape along the top and bottom edge of the trim before taking it off. Then once it is off you can make a line under the trim area between the two tape lines..
