I am about to order new 14'x6' magnum 500 rims for my 71 and was wondering if anyone new the correct factory backspacing for the 6' rims? If I want to put 14'x7' on the back could I keep the same backspace as the 6' wheel because it appears there is a lot of extra room between the rear rims and the quarterpanel? Thanks for your help.
You would be so much better off moving up to 15 inch Magnums regarding a lot different tire sizes available. My green car below has them. The fronts are factory 15x7s and the backs are 15x8 Wheel Vintiques. Sorry that I don't have backspace numbers for you... did this a while ago. I am running 1/4 inch spacers on the rear. I have 265/50 tires on the back, and the inner wheelhouse is bit close. I have the white letters turned in, and on a steep entry driveway, the letters rub. Also, if you go with 14 inch wheels and get disc brakes, anything wider than a 14x6 up front starts getting close to the caliper.
lol.. maybe when they stop making base model economy cars. there are tons of tire mfgrs out there and they will all continue to compete for that ever shrinking segment of 14 inch performance tires. Mainly because it's just smart business practice. but I do agree somewhat that the 16 inch tires are fast becoming the "base model 14 inch of yesteryear". From there we get optional 17, 18, 19, or even 20 inchers.
Thanks for the input. I have no problem getting 15's rather than 14's. Maybe 15"x6" in the front and 15"x7" in the back. So 3.75 backspacing? I want the tires to be stock height, any suggestions? Maybe 235/60/15's? I also plan on lowering the car 1". Thanks again for all the help.
measure the stock 14" tire and then find a 15" tire that height... I would think more of a...50 series...than a 60.
