Just off enough to be a major pain. Ford could have saved themselves a lot of manufacturing costs (and us a lot of head-aches) if they would have recycled more parts. That .25" here and there really sucks.

How did you land on Cortex for your front suspension? I've looked at this one as well as Griggs (same designer) and figured it would be an easy mod to fit. Looks like I was wrong.

What are you doing with the rear suspension? Griggs torque arm?

Chris I totally agree but Ford has not learned there lesson. You literally have to cross your fingers when designing parts and expect them to fit year to year and then they though in a mid year change just to mess with you.

How I got to Cortex was another chassis company promised me the moon at SEMA but couldn’t deliver so I started looking at options. Then a local shop did the same thing leaving me a year behind on the build. I saw the 66 Mustang that Filip from Cortex built at SEMA and really like what I saw. 315 tires all the way around and 1G on the skid pad.

I contacted him and he liked what I had planned and jumped in with both feet. I’m also using his rear set up which is very similar to the Griggs watt's link set up but uses conventional shock locations and a modified 3 link. The rear will be a Fab 9 Moser full floater with AFCO shocks on all four corners. With the power I will have that should make for a very fun ride.

The brackets that slide over the frame rail, closest to the firewall, do the line up with the outer surface of the frame rail? Or will it have to be boxed and notched on both the inner and outer surface? 64-66 Mustangs are much closer to Mavericks in width, as compared to 67 & up Mustangs, I think..., I'll have to dig out some frame charts and have a look. This all looks awesome!!

Dave they do not they are the same distance off as the inside. Aslo where the k-member bolts to the bottom of the frame is off as well.

Boxing and plating would work as would cutting apart the k-member but I will show you the route I took when I post an update later tonight.

Sorry guys last night’s update turned into this morning’s update. Anyway the next step once the k-member was square and level in the car was to weld it to the frame table so that the factory from frame rails could be removed. The new front rails will be fabricated from 2x4 rectangular tubing. I left the rad support in place for now as a reference point and to mount the fenders so I can check the wheel base when mounting the Cortex A- arm brackets.

Don't know how I missed the beginning of this build but I just read through it and am caught up now and I'm loving every bit of it. :yahoo:

I had some issues with my Mustang II crossmember, from Full Tilt Street Rods, direct fitting my Maverick due to the fact that it was actually designed and built for an early Falcon/Comet who's inside to inside frame measurement is a little bit narrower than the Maverick by 1 inch. Everything works out in the end though :)

I will definitly be following this build :tiphat:

How did you make up the difference in the frame rail dimensions mav1970?

Well now you've gone and done it. LOL. The Roadster Shop Mustang front clip looks really nice right now.

J/K. While you've got it apart though... Im not sure if you know this or not, but the factory Coyote Headers are too wide for the mustang frame rails (already wider than the Mav) and need to be modified. Since you are starting fresh with framerails, this may be a perfect chance to avoid that headache later on.

None of this is cheep the Cortex spindles are a 3k upgrade! I looked hard at the roadster shop frames but was at 16,000 in no time. I can do the fabrication and the Cortex stuff is more cutting edge.

As for the header I the product design lead at Pypes so that won't be an issue.

That's pretty cool! We use to have another guy on here that worked at "Doug Thorley" he's been on TV a few times, but he sold his Maverick and bought a Fox body...

Those frames The Roadster Shop makes would be something..a few guys on pro-touring.com come are using them...

Dave that's funny I filmed an episode of Chop Cut Rebuild in June that will air sometime in December. We are the official exhaust sponsor for the show and I got to do the install on Classic Industries 56 Chevy Roadster they are building. I also did the work on the 71 Nova but that was not an on air episode. Both cars will be at SEMA.

Jamie was the guy from Thorley, and he was on Chop Cut Rebuild also. Dan Woods creeps me out, he's been on Canadian TV for years. The first season of CCR was filmed in Ontario.

Do you have a larger version of the picture in your signature that you could post? I assume this is what the car is going to look like when it's complete.
