What are you guy's using for upgrade axels? Will still be 28 spline stock length ina 9". Anyone have a part number
i run 31 spline mosiers, you can get them any length. im pretty sure they can make them 28 spline also, but it would be a good time to upgrade Duane
No need to spend the extra money right now on a different spline set up. Good 28 splines will hold the 9.80s it will go on the bottle next year
If you are running 9.8's in the 1/4 I can tell you that buying 28 spline is waste of money. When I took my axles out earlier this year they looked like the picture Derek posted and they were old 31 spline Strange. In hopes of going faster than my 9.801, I have just upgraded to 35 spline Moser's...IMHO
1/4,ive got a few friends goin mid 9's on 28 spline axles, and with the car being so light i really dont see why itd hurt a 28 spline but idk guess ill just have too take my chances with them
My Maverick is 3325lbs with me and 5 gallons of Sunoco 112, how much does your car weigh. The guys I know that are running faster than 9.99 are using at least 31 and a couple have even gone up 40 spline, but they are cutting a 1.2 or better 60'. The best I have been able to get is 1.4 but with the new motor/redsigned headers and loosened converter I'm hoping for a 1.3 or 1.2. With the money I have tied up in my Maverick and my ole brittle bones I can't affort to take those kind of chances @136/140mph.
olerodder hit the nail perfectly square, IMO. Light cars help.. but if you leave really hard.. and often enough?.. you'll eventually find those 28 spline load limits. I also see tons of people(some with higher powered big blocks) swearing by heavy duty factory axles.. but they usually always live on barrowed time and eventually upgrade to better steel with higher spline counts. Especially when they see what happens to some of the others who swear by them too. Luckily though.. most of these failures happen in the first 100 feet and you just hope to keep your paint off the wall.. or that row of parked cars.. depending on where you happen to be racing it at the time. Good luck with it.
Car's 2900 with me (340) and 16 gal of e85.And will only get lighter by next year-Glass hood, and small bumper swap. Like i said i guess i'll just have to take my chances on the 28 spline.I understand eveeryones opionions but with as many cars as we have around here with 28 splines and factory foxbody axels going faster than i plan to at a heavier weight it just doesnt make since to me to spend a bunch off extra money on axles that will be changed out in 2 years when the rear suspension gets redon.
Mine are 35 spline Mosers that are gundrilled and have the flanges lightened. They are within ounces of the 28 splines from my 8". From my perspective I would rather do it once than to do it over. But having said that, I would rather see you have aftermarket 28's instead of stock 28's.
Wow your car is light! Most of the foxbody cars around here are running stock 8.8's (94-99) as they came with 31 splined axles and beefier tubes. I believe the 8.8's are a carbon copy of the 12bolt with only a few differences and are a great rearend and some mod's can be as tuff as the 9". Good Luck.
Thanks guys we'll see how it goes,i havennt made it to the track this year but on our good street spots ive put a car on a 11.20 car and neither of us spun.Car doesnt see much track time but gets raced every weekend when the weathers good.Street racing is very big here and also completly different thann most places.
31 splines cost no more money tham 28's i dont know if you run a spool, but the only upcost would be the posi/spool/locker. Thats just my opinion Duane
