Good work, Dave! It's looking like everything is coming together!! Are you going to be using the "button" grille, or is it just for mock-up??
Your roof looks alot better then mine did after stripping off the vinyl and the glue. Mine was covered with craters from the rust. I see you got a good bit of work to do still though. Atleast somebody didnt hit each of the chrome trim rivets with a hammer to knock them down like they did on mine. Oh what a fun summer that was when I was cleaning all that up. Are you going to paint it or go back with vinyl again? Im sure going vinyl will save alot of time.
I agree with Ryan the roof looks really good under all the glue. The roof on my 72 has tons of rust pits and some holes and dents too. I really like the style of vinyl roof you have. My 75 had the same type and I loved it. From the side it doesnt even look like it has vinyl. I like being able to see the part where the quarter panel meets the roof (called the sail panel maybe?) in paint. It gives it a much nicer roof line in my opinion.
Thanks! It's just for mock-up, it was close by...I'm going to cut the emblem out of a grill, like Mavman72 did to his car. I want to put vinyl back, I think a Black Halo top on a Black car should look good... It does have some pits...but nothing that can't be fixed. My 74 Grabber, also has the halo top, when I stripped it, the roof is perfect, no rust at all. This car had a white top from the factory, which at some point was replaced with a black top, with a 1/4" of glue to hold it down...The odometer for this car is at 46000 miles, and considering how clean it is in some places, it my be the true mileage? Thanks for all the comments, it keeps me going, but after a 10 hour day at work today, I'll be watching TV tonight
Black vinyl on a black car will be sweet. If myc ar ever gets repainted I think I am going all black, clean and simple. Sometime I wish I would have kept the vinyl top too.
I always thought a black car with the satin black stripes would look subtle, but awesome. Like they did with the newer Mustangs. Black Grabber stripes on a black car!!!
The rear window area was all gooped up with glue, and remains of who knows what, a couple of coats of paint stripper, and it's somewhat cleaned up. Needs some light blasting to remove some slight surface rust, but that'll have to wait till this weekend, it's Canadian Thanksgiving, so we get a long weekend. The nasty looking spot on the driverside, is the factory lead, not lifting, but finished really rough...Quality has come a long way...
Looks good Dave...The lead on the driverside pillar on my blue beast had an awful looking wad of lead in the same place...Quality has come a long way...No one uses lead anymore....No domestics anywhoo.
Man you actually work on your Mavericks? I just let mine sit in the garage torn apart like yours is haha. lookin good
Looking good Dave. I have not touched my project in years and need your project to motivate me, not that I am motivated enough to get off my ass.
