Actually you might be able to just get away with a new pair of 31 spline side gears in your existing center section. I'm not sure if the case opening is different in size between the two though.
It's your choice, but if your taking it to the track do us all a favor and follow the rules. Since you have a spool you need to upgrade to aftermarket axels per general regs anyway. People always talk about what they can get away with or how tech's never said any thing to them. Most of us go to the track so often that the tech inspectors never even look at our cars. The fact is when you sign the tech card your telling the track that you car meets all the general regulations to race and you agree to the terms. As long as every one plays by the rules there is no liability. We also need to think about the guy in the other lane as well as the fans.
I've twisted and broken 28 spline axles in cars with alot less power than yours. My sons high 13 second foxbody for example had twisted the axles. It was a stock engine with headers and 3.73 gears and slicks. They were stock axle though.
Seriously, where'd that come from?Did i say anything about try'n to get around tech with stock axles? No i did not im simply try'n to make my budget work and dont see what your post has to do with anything in this thread. If you didnt figure it out im putting good axles in the car and as ive stated havent been to the track his year.
^yea ya have to veiw the site they've been having alot of problems with spammers aso they changed it to that way and it helped alot,it is a free board like this 1,but alittle more local to the midwest. But we do have alot of members from all over.
28 splines not a good choice. Sorry you didnt like my opinion just trying to save you money, but like you said go ahead and take your chances, its on you.
those years fox mustang are 28 spline. 2005 is the first year the 8.8 mustangs got 31 spline axles from the factory.
Sorry, I was told by one of local FFBG (Fast Fox Body Guys) that is what he was running is his car and it was either narrower or wider so he could run a different offset, plus he said the axle tubes were bigger. Since you are the rearend guru I will discount his story.
That's ok John, I was going to say Pundit, but thought that was too close to some other words that have a different meaning............................besides, it was too early in the morning for me and I hadn't finished my first coffee.
lol really, your last post was nothing but crap about following the rules nothing about reasoning about why a 28 spline wont work in my car,no real world experience or anything just a random post about following rules and trying to get away with things. But ya know what they say opinions are like aholes everyones got 1.......
Sorry if Ive upset you, I guess I could have worded it better but when I called Moser to get mine I was told the 28 spline was not race legal in any organization, it's also on their website. That being said, being a big supporter of safety at our local tracks I would encorage you to consider taking it off the steets. There's a lot to be learned at your local track, it's also a lot safer.
