Had some minor passenger front torque box issues to take care of before I can begin tacking in the right front replacement rocker piece so out in the garage I went this morning. I cut out a rectangular section out of the inside rocker wall which contained rust through issues and also gave me an access directly into the interior of the right front torque box. This access allowed me to shoot a nice thick coat of green Eastwood internal frame coating into the torque box. There is stlll a little metal replacement to do on the front firewall side of the box and that will have to be done before I seal the rocker up for good.
Maybe 2 years ago, I sprayed this stuff into both of my rear frame rails, after I removed the trunk floor sheet metal, and it is holding up great. Looks like the day I sprayed it on I'm sure that, by the time I'm done with this car, nothing in the garage will be in it's original condition----or color
It's a rust encapsulator in spray form - it comes with a clear plastic tube that lets you stick it into existing holes and coat inside of frame rails , or whatever, without having to open them up. Since I had to cut that section out anyway, I just let it have it from straight from the nozzle.
lol.. They make stuff and they have smells that make you wonder how they taste. I bought some stuff that you use when pulling electrical wires through conduit. Looks and smells exactly like vanilla pudding, sweet smelling and all. Just not as tasty
Got the driver side front of the rocker cut off. This side is a little worse than the passenger side as it has some inside issues but just something more to fix I guess. My plan is to make all of the repairs to both rockers, front torque boxes and front floors all at once since their rust problems are somewhat connected. I also figured I would take a picture down the inside of the rocker because once it's all fixed, this area should never see the light of day again. As you can see, by the daylight showing, I have issues at the rear of the rocker too.
On To The Driver Side Floor I figured that I would combine the recent rocker work with front floor board and front torque box repairs and get them all finished up together. I moved on over to the driver side floor damage caused by the cowl and vent rust through (all of that has already been repaired). Instead of removing a large piece of floorboard and replacing it with complete Mustang floor panels, I decided to just remove the problem areas and repair the floor with small seperate patch projects. The foot well had the most damage and that piece is now gone as well as the smaller pieces. You can see that the inside piece of the torque box has some surface corrosion issues and only one small rot through point but I'm not going to replace that entire piece, only encapsulate it with Eastwood products. and spot weld new floor metal over it. Now will be the time to also build my front cage under floor outrigers that will go from the subframe rail to the rocker and pick up the underside of the cage plate. More work tomorrow.
