Thanks guys. As usual, it came down to the wire in getting it ready for the show. Just the day before, the engine comp looked like this: It was overheating terribly and I just couldnt figure it out. Finally I decided to adjust the timing to see if that would help. I cant tell you where it is now, but after a considerable bump in timing it is now running MUCH cooler. At some point it must have retarded. The headers would glow red at idle. Also installed a new clutch master cylinder. After reading Mashori and Bryant threads about their setup, I discovered that they were using 7/8 master and a 3/4 slave. I had a 3/4 master and 7/8 slave per the kit instructions. This did not provide nearly enough travel for my Centerforce Dual Friction clutch. Its working much better now. Before I had to keep the preload high enough so that I could disengage the clutch to shift but low enough for the clutch to engage to drive. I was constantly at risk of slipping or not being able to shift. Problem solved. I may still try a 3/4 slave later to see if it gets easier but for now, I think it is just fine. Next up, its going to be a trip to the body shop for some work and then dress up to try and make it photo worthy. After that, Im hoping to make a Time-Attack/Autocross event in December with the Porsche Club of America. Yea, I know. They're a bunch of "hoitey toitey" Porsche owners. But, their regional name is the "Maverick Region" so how bad could they be. LOL
Thanks Dave. I really expected more roll out of it myself. Im thinking about upgrading from a 7/8" front bar to a 1-1/8" but just dont know that I need it. Im going to get the rear wheel tubs clearanced to see how much it frees up the suspension and then decide. He may be required to run water only for autocrossing. I think some drag racing classes are like that.
Yes. It was a surprise to me too after having the motor built. This was a 200.00 Mexican block that I had machined for the 347. I got it back and put it together only to find out the rust had not been cleaned out. Per the builder, he cleaned the rust out but rust can be released in the block if it gets too hot. Therefore it was my fault for getting it hot. Now I run a screen filter (seen in the return hose to the rad) that filters out the larger radiator destroying stuff. The rest of it colors my water/coolant rust-red. From what I gathered, there's not much I can do about it. Its kind of embarrassing.
My Annual 1/8th mile trip So I went out to see what it would do last night. I was pleasantly surprised by my first run. I ran a 8:59. My quickest ever run. My 60' time is still high with a 1:98 so there is lots left in it. Maybe 8:0 in current off the street form. Lower with some shock tuning, slicks and skinny's. I've got a video and photo that look pretty good. From what I can tell, the car launches flat maybe a slight squat. So I pull back up to make another pass and this time the guy staging the cars tells me I need a helmet and I have to lose my passenger. Apparently anything faster than a 8:60 has to have a helmet and no passengers. So I promise to go slower since I left the helmet behind but I still give up the passenger. I make my run and let off of it before the finish crossing the line at 8:72. I think "I got this now". I go again but this time I blow the tires out failing to get traction. Its that way for the rest of the night. Im not sure what I was doing differently but it sure wasnt working. Perhaps I was getting caught up in the "racing" aspect instead of just trying to be consistent and improving my launch. I left with a little bit of a grudge though. Throughout the night I kept seeing other cars consistently running in the mid-low 8's with no helmet and a passenger. I questioned the starting guy and was told "hey, Im just passing along the info". The only thing I can assume is these other cars were late models with airbags and other safety features. Thoughts? Oh and it took them all night to stop calling it a Mustang. Somebody finally went up to the booth and told him it was a Maverick.

I currently have a 7/8 in the front and 3/4 in the rear.

Your car looks like a blast. Just a recap. Did the 265 front tires work or did you change to a smaller size? I love those BFG's!
Thanks. Yes they work. If I had a 18x9.5 wheel I think I could run a 275. But that would be the absolute max I could get away with.
That's great. One other thing. Did the aftermarket front suspension change the wheel backspacing? I'm thinking of going Chris Alston coil overs and Bear brakes. But I want to keep my rims I have now. The front rims can not come out any more, my 235 is right at the fender. I need to clear Bear T4 caliper.
