Mine is just over 2800 lbs (don't remember the odd weight) without me in it. We won't discuss how much it weighs including me...
WOW. I was thinking they were closer to 2600lbs or so. Weight...well...I do not have the highest hp motor and would rather shed some weight this winter where I can. Every bit helps. I will weigh the car once I get the trans in. Definitely on my todo list. Winner gets ummm...some cool stickers
I pick up more nails just driving down the road than I ever have in a dump or scrap yard. In the last year 4 nails/screws across 2 cars just driving down the road. Been going to dumps my whole life and I've never even seen anyone pick up a nail. All the dumps I go to constantly have mexicans out sweeping the trash into piles. They don't make money on those nails if they leave in your tires. @bmcdaniel: I add about a 1/6th of a ton to my car. I doubt your beating that. Normally its a ~1.4 ton car, toss a toolbox in the back, gas it up, sit in it, some fast food and soda cans on the floor I'd bet most of us are closer to 1.6 tons if it's not a race car. (unless I'm in your car...)
So how do you shave more weight. Currently looking into fiberglass bumpers with brackets, fiberglass or carbon hood. Lexan rear and quarter windows as I painted over my quarter windows and the rear I will someday put a louver on (somehow). Aluminum driveshaft, and flywheel. Are actually the next two on the list. Then the seats. Then the hood. Then the windows.
Mine weighed 2820 without me but had iron heads, T5, a 9 inch with Detroit locker. This was without carpet. When I added new interior with buckets it added 100 lbs. 2920 lbs.
Wow. I was hoping I could get mine down to 2600lbs or so. Does not look like it. Even with a gutted interior....and all the things I want to do.
My 71 Grabber, 2 door with a 250 I6, no a/c, no p/s, c4 auto, 8 inch rear, full interior with front bench seat weighs 2562 without me in it.
my 71 weighed 2695lbs, it had a 351 w motor with steel heads, 8 in ,c4,3 inch exhaust to rearend,headers,factory bucket seat interior,,weld wheels,carpet,no heat,air,or power brakes
Keep em' comin guys. I cant wait to get this 5 speed in and weigh this car. See what I am workin with.
Hey John...I am surprised that your car weighs that much. I think a stock 1970 Maverick would weigh less, but I imagine the roll cage and tubbing plus the 9 inch rearend have alot to do with it.
Mine is 2750, late model 5.0 swap... my other Maverick was around the same, but heater box, and everything interior removed....My 69 Stang is only 3118 with a full cage, and a 460, coil spring/ladder bars. Was 3280 with the leafs and no cage.
Hey Gene, The one thing that makes the car a little on the heavy side is that all of the tubbing is 16 gauge sheet metal along with the trunk firewall. It also has a 72 trunk floor that was welded in to use the tank underneath the car, plus the back half ladder bar setup..............plus the 100lbs of lead in the rear crossmember. Also, although I've taken all of the rugs/padding out of the car (which was needed back in the B/SM days) I doubt that it would amount to more than 30/40lbs.
My stock interior bench seat '71 Maverick 2-door, with an iron head 302 roller and a c4, full tank of gas, spare tire, tools, and myself at about 220lbs came out to be 2880lbs on a certified scale.
