Backup lamp differences

A long time ago I got a wild hair and put blue dots in my 70 taillights and later replaced them with lenses out of a later model...not sure what year they came from.

I remember my original lenses had full clear back up lamps....the replacements have red showing above and below the clear part. Does anyone know what years the full clear back up lenses are specific to?

The 70 had full clear. I don't know the cut-off date when it went with the red showing

 

There is a thread about it somewhere...the Early cars seemed to have the full clear section..

 

I think I'm going to try to find a good full clear set.

I would like to know why they ever changed them from the '70 style. With the red showing around the edge on the later ones, it looks like a mismatch.

 

Is the backup light lens seperate from the taillight lens? I've never had mine apart to look. I'd like to get a set of the all clear ones for my 74, if they fit! I have one that is cloudy and they are red stripes on the 74.
