I still say the fork needs to be connected together towards the end as far as possible..

You mean Scooper's coat hanger wire doesn't meet requirements?

That was just experimental mockup. but seriously, he mentioned about crappy Autozone hangers, and while I was under there cutting all that new stuff off, I noticed my hangers only have about 3/8" of rubber on them. They are metal down about 4", then a tiny bit of rubber, then another couple inches of metal. So he might have a good point about that, and more important, he brought it to my attention!

Look at the picture below. You can see the metal parts of both the top and bottom parts of the hangers, with just a touch of rubber in the middle.

not that I'm saying it can make the difference, but I've always used the ones that are one big piece of rubber all the way up to where they screw in...

also, when I used full length tailpipes, the drone was dramatically less. 'Drone sound' inside the muffler is pushed out the back compared to dumps in front of the axle. But, the drone will always be there to an extent with "flowmasters". changed my exhaust a billion times (trying to make it louder and louder) and couldn't STAND flowmasters with dumps in front of the axle...

(If I repeated info, it's just cause I didn't bother reading the other post in front of mine)

Those are the same hangers I used. No drone. There's enough rubber there to insulate it from the body.

lol.. and to think that I usually go easy on you guys with less than a thousand words!

the way I see it is this. Some folks are perfectly content to briefly chime in to add a little here and there as the discussion progresses along it's typical drawn out forum'esqe timeline. I don't usually play around with chit-chat like that and try to get er' done right off the bat whenever I get the chance. Also try to consider that working out of my home office gives me flexibility to do just that(really breaks up the monotony) and it often takes over an hour of refocusing to fianlly put out my thoughts, opinion and experience here in hopes that it may help others. Hence the redundancy and excessive paragraphing at times as I often cut 30% of the final reply away to avoid too many vaiables/points at once.

Not that I'm apologizing for how fast I type or the word counts that I often reach here and on other forums. There's tons of info that I too come across which I never read either. ;)

In the end here.. I'm not even working on my Comet yet.. but I take the time to share my other experiences whenever I can.. and without even needing a thank you in the process. No ego.. no male pride.. not many strings attached and it's usually a "take it or leave it" type response anyways. And don't get me wrong.. I'll certainly debate my reasoning if asked to.. or my responses get torn apart and/or taken out of context.. but I certianly don't need gold stars from a forum to validate what I've learned so far. My build will speak for itself and I might even share some of my custom made Maverick and Comet goodies throughout the process. ;)

The one thing that I am completely sure of.. is that people who are really passionate about what they do.. have some experience to back it up.. and more importantly.. are willing to share their time to help others?.. are my kind of folk. :tiphat:

    lol.. "enough rubber"?

Well.. let me ask you this then..

    How much is enough rubber?

Does the rubber need to stretch in both directions to reduce the vibration?

    What about the durometer ratings?

Not to try and throw mud in your sensitive eye either.. but to think that there is no percievable difference in energy transfer between that cheap hanger and factory one?.. is absolutely and utterly rediculous.

Unless of course you own a rubber cloth factory and want your stock prices to go up when the automakers start using them too. :dancing:

You type faster than I can read. Bethat as it may, those cheap hangers work fine with my Turbo tubes. But for Flows he may need something far thicker and squishier to dampen them. But what would I know, I have an aversion to trying those parts that seem to turn on the Chebby crowd :rofl2::biglaugh:

I do hear you and they can get the job done well enough most days but the OP is fighting to smooth things out a bit more which was why I went way into the detail with the above. It used to be that we had to run ganged mufflers just to get the flow where we needed it. Heavy as hell.. but the car did make more power.

Personally.. I prefer spintechs, magnaflows, and Hooker aerochambers.. in that order.

And.. I still see tons of Mustangs running FM's every year too. :D

:D Those are the Chebby guys who were lured to the "dark side" when the Camaro was killed off. :biglaugh:

Are Magnaflows drone-free? I can get them at local shops, and they are heavy, full of fluff, and stainless, and will fit right in place of where my flowmasters are currently located.
