I have not worked on the Comet for a while, but I have acquired some parts here and there. Today is my day off that I will be spending getting her ready for the rotisserie. Gotta clean up the shop a bit and finish repairing the driver's torque box. I don't want to be spinning the body around with an incomplete torque box repair.
Picked up a 28 spline 9" from Matt. Tore it down, cleaned it and painted it up. What is awesome is that the disc brake brackets that I made for the original 8" fit perfectly on my 9". Woohoo! I don't have to buy/make new rear disc brackets! 3.50s and True Trac here I come.
Got my driver's torque box patch panel made. 14ga steel should hold it together nicely. Now just need to Por15 the inside and weld it in.
Thanks! Just ordered a six pack of Por15 mini cans. After reading your guy's experience with partial cans, I decided to save my quart for a larger job. Once those come in, I can treat and coat the inside of the torque box and weld her up! Once it is in, I will feel comfortable mounting it on the rotisserie. Gonna have to make a run to the steel shop and get the square tubing I will need to make mounts.
Used Por15 in the driver's side torque box. Also Por15'ed up the patch panel I made. Por15'ed the driver's rear torque box. I also pressed the wheel studs out of the 9" 28 spline axles. Finished stripping down the 9" center section. Just need some paint and it will be ready for 3.50's and a truetrac.
Welded in the driver's side torque box patch panel. It is not ready to be touched up with POR15 and covered up with the driver's side replacement floor pans. Also fabricated and welded in the passenger front floor pan patch panel. The other floor pan repairs are going to be cut from Mustang pans. This panel was pretty simple, so I just used sheet metal. I had fun today!
