My plan is to take the drip rails off of my car too and for the same reason - too much pitting and corrosion - what I noticed is if you follow my roof skin down around towards the actual drip rail, right before the drip rail begins there is a raised section in the roof skin itself - I can easily take off the drip rail but this raised section would still be there

My question would be - did you leave the raised section in the roof skin or were you able to remove that also?

Awesome job by the way :thumbs2:

I left that raised area. Mine was in good shape so it wasn't necessary to get rid of it. Also, if you cut that raised area out you till have to actually weld in some metal between the skin and the bottom area of the roof. That raised area is part of the roof skin. I just took a die grinder and cut right at the inside edge of the drip rail, then welded the two pieces back together.

    Does all that make sense?

Absolutely Glenn - I was the one worried that I wasn't explaining that raised section well enough. I figured grinding it out would leave a gap of missing steel because it was pressed in the roof skin when it was made. I actually just noticed it yesterday - thanks much :Handshake

Looking good Glenn. Love that Ford door plate. I spent the 4 day weekend replacing the left side quarter panel on my Comet. Sure is nice to have factory quarters.

Glenn, I have not spent a lot of time on this site lately and have spent even less time working on my project. I checked out your project from the beginning and you have come up with some fantastic ideas. Keep up the great work and hopefully I can see the finished project in person soon.:thumbs2:

    some painting...

I am trying to get some of the sub assemblies done so when it's time I can just start in with it, rather than having to wait for things to be assembled.

I have had the rear end housing in primer for quite some time. I thought it was a good time to get some color on it and the center section. I already have the disc brake brackets on the axles. So once this has cured I can assemble the entire rear end and make it a roller.

After spending several more hours getting the inside of the NOS quarters completely stripped it was time to get some epoxy on them. My plan had been to just put a couple coats of black DP90LF on them and be done. But, I decided now was the time to spray them body color since I had such easy access. So, two coats of the DP, followed by three coats of the PPG Envirobase waterborne base coat and then two coats of DC4000 clear. They look good. While in the booth I also sprayed the trunk drop offs.

The guys in my shop are really liking the Envirobase too. We will probably be fully converted by end of this coming week.
    Your car is looking awesome!

The insides of your quarter panels look better than the outsides of mine...

Aren't you afraid of burning off the paint when you weld your quarters on?

    They do look nice though
