Thank you for the nice words. Most of my cage is only tacked into place right now. As I do the full finished welds. I will be adding gussets everywhere that is needed. I still have a lot of 3 hole gussets from back in my stock car building days but I found a lot of custom gussets on Ebay that I might throw into some of the places where you can see them. I kind of like the ones that are flame cut like spider webs but I don't want to get too crazy with something like that

 

Got my driver side floor repairs all seam sealed now and the cage leg bolt holes redrilled - new undercar cage leg steel plate made and all bolted down - next is to get the cage outrigger finished

The front cage uprights bolt thought the sheet metal floor with a 4 bolt plate on top and a matching one under the floor - but it attaches to nothing else but sheetmetal - I used a piece of rectangular tubing to come from the stock Maverick subframe over to the lip on the rocker - then the bottom 4 bolt cage plate gets welded to the new little crossmember which will be welded to the subframe and bolted through the bottom rocker lip - the rear cage upper plates pick up the metal of the rear torque boxes so I'm good there

It's getting colder up north now and I only have a kero heater so my work gets limited to working "not too far away from the heater" LOL!

 

Passenger Floor Work

This past week I finished cutting out the rusted through sections of the passenger floor and got those areas coated with that really cool looking grasshopper green encapsulator. Instead of taking the easy way out and simply cutting out a larger square sheet of steel and covering up everything, I decided to cut the piece a little more complicated in order to just fill in what was needed to be replaced but still keep it down to only one single piece of steel. I wanted to keep as much of the stock appearing floor as I could. You can also see, in the first photo, just how far my subframe connector goes up into the stock front subframe.

Weird how the patch piece kind of reminds me of Texas - must be all those rust free parts that I bought from Rick Brooks

Today I got the new piece of steel fitted, undercoated and then tack welded it in solid enough for today. I'll finish it up tomorrow.

 

Nice job on that... like all the other stuff you've done to the car.

Floorboards are tougher to do than at first glance. I learned a lot doing mine. Good thing mine are covered in carpet.

 

The thing I learned the most is to aim for any overlap or seam to land on a subframe or a edge angle. It's the same as trying to overlap house flooring without having a joist underneath it.

I have to roll the car over one last time before it is finished so I'll get it from underneath

I have to re-do my mounting brackets now that the cage is in the car. I didn't make them adjustable and I know for certain that the roll over center point will be at a different point now.
