Has any one had any luck with tri-city plating welding up the holes for the bumper guards? I talked to them today they said they could do it, but there might be some pitting.

I want to rechrome my front and rear small bumper but I don't want the bumper guards.

I'm debating whether to try it, or spend some $ on different cores.

    Thanks

    Ted

I would suggest getting someone local to weld them up...without pits...:thumbs2:

They quoted $300 each. Nothing in stock so I would have to ship mine.

    Bumpers

Just sent mine out last week, with the holes needing welded up. Got a real good feeling talking to them on the phone. It looks like many of the memebers have used them in the past. I'll have the bumpers back end of month if you want to wait till then. I'll let you know how they turned out. Another option is DGM Chrome in Philadelphia. They do pot metal. Just sent the boomeranfs out. Gorgeous as they did all the chrome on my buddies Lemans. Sent along a picture of the car.

If you are worried about pits in the chrome...Have a local fab shop weld em shut and grind em down. Just gont have em finish grind the welds...Let the plater smooth em out before plating. This way the plater knows what he's working with when its time for the first strike of copper.

I sent my boomerangs to Advance Plating in Nashville years ago. At that time they had a "If you need to ask a price, don't come to us" attitude. It was outragous. They do good work, but they cater to the rich collector car and custom motorcycle crowds and you pay thru the nose.

My rear bumper is ok, but my frt was pretty rusty. It cleaned up nice but I really want to get it re-chromed while it's off. I may ship it to Tri-City after the holidays. We are planning a Gatlinburg trip so I'd like to plan to run over and pick it up while we're there. That way I won't have to worry about shipping damage.

    Cometblues, your car looks great.

Thanks guys for all the advice. Cometblues, please post pics and let me know how it goes.

In related news, I decided I needed to speed up my restoration up a bit so early next year I'm going to drop the sprint off at Dale and Jean Doll's place. As you can imagine, I'm super excited and will be sure to post all the pics they send me. I've seen in person the job they did on Art's stallion and can't wait to see what they can do with the sprint.

    Chrome and stuff

Thanks for the compliment on the car predfan. I'm diggin it. Only have had it two weeks. Believe it or not it was on Ebay, located in eastern Shore MD, about an hour away from my house. Huge Fairlane fan, but I gotta tell ya I love the short wheel base. The cars not cut up with only 60K. Super straight boby, and only a few welded patches on original sheet metal. Building a 347 stroker for it as we speak. ETP engines is the man! He builds some serious record holder small block stuff.

G3blues get ya some pictures when the front bumper and left rear boomerang are done. I did talk to tri cilty and turn around is two weeks right now. I'm having the holes welded up for the bumper burrets, and they were not concerned of it being a problem.

    Fun site to be on!!

My rear bumper needs straightening, bowed in about an inch and a half and has a very slight twist. Is this something they would fix or would I need to fix prior to sending it in? I've had parts plated before at a local shop, they did an ok job but the parts didn't need repair and I don't think I would go back to them.

    Bumper straightening

TriCity is straightening mine as well as filling the holes. It has a slight woop to it on the pass. side corner. As long as it is not wrinkled (smashed) it should be no problem. You just may have to pay extra for the time. The owner is real nice to talk to.

How are you guys shipping your bumper to tri cities? Seems like I read once they just say to label the bumper and ship it....no need to package it. Or maybe that was the place in Atlanta???
