Back to the track yesterday, air was decent this time. I went a 11.53@114 with a 1.59 60ft. On the 3rd pass I dropped my x pipe and ran open headers and that netted me nothing. In fact it dropped 60 to a 1.60 and et slowed to 11.55. The 4th pass it fell on its face and didnt run worth a crap so I aborted. I found this morning that my distibuter was loose and timing was way off. I had some hard start issues all day and I blamed it on the old battery that is in it..... This forces me to wonder what timing was in it on the "Good" passes. Maybe Ill reset the timing and go back next weekend. We shall see
Can you tell us a little about your combination? What else is done to the motor besides the heads? What trans? What tires? What gears?
The trans is a Performance Auto C4 with there street foward pattern VB and hardened input. It was freshened by them last year and has now about 12 passes on it. The converter is also a fresh Edge 4400 with the same amount of passes. 8in rear with 4:11s and a mini spool.I run Cal tracs, Calvert's Mono leaf spring and a MT ET Radial Pro 275 tire @ 15psi warm on an 8 in rim. I leave @ 3,000 and shift at 7,000 and cross the stripe @ 6,300. The engine is a 306,Airgap intake,750 Proform, 72-82 Jet,4.5 PV, Performance automotive SSI Cam 520/544 234/244 @ .050, AFR 165 Comp Heads, Dove Roller Rockers, Trend Pushrods,1 5/8 Headmans, 3" X pipe with 16" Bullets, Pistons are a flat top TRW now SLP-L2482F30, That brings CR to 10:1, Crank is a stock 70's balanced .030&.030 unit with stock 70's 302 Rods, A DSS Main girdle and windage tray along with ARP hardware hold it all together, A melling HV oil pump keeps it lubed up, Milidon 7qt pan is underneath. Aluminum radiator,Perma Cool elec fan and stock 302 water pump. 1 wire Powermaster Alt, Stock 302 starter that hates heat...lol An aluminum Dynotech driveshaft leads its way to a 8" with 4:11's and stock axles with longer studs, Also I have a set of (Dan Starnes) sub frame connectors tieing the thing together. It has all the interior and extra padding/sound deadning and comes to 3000lbs with 220lb of me behind the wheel...lol
Nice combo. It runs good! Is that cam flat tappet or roller? Hydraulic or solid? Did you ever go back after you tightened down the distributor?
7.30 @ 94 The cam is a Hyd Flat Tappet, I didn't make it back to the track after finding the loose dist. Wish I could have...
you probably had to much timing in the fast pass, the 1/4 time was off ,seems it was slow compared to the 1/8th mile time,i would think you should have ran 11.20s if timing was right and you arent shifting at to much rpm,i think you have alot left in it,the short times look good might have some left there also,1/8th time looks good,i bet it goes alot faster 1/4 when you go back with timing right ,if not try shifting at 6500 rpm see what happens
how did you get 275 under there,I tried to put some on yesterday, inside right on leafspring,no more room outside either?
