So as I sit out here on deployment, I keep reading over times from friends on facebook and other posts across the forum.

I'm currently running a pump-gas 347 in my '71 2-door Maverick with a full interior, stock suspension and a $150 column-shift C4 with 2800 stall Big End converter. The rearend is a stock 8" unit with a 3.40 open chunk in it. The tires are 225/60 street tires, full tread, and a little hard.

I have not done a lot of tuning on the motor, and I feel the timing or fuel is off at the top of the RPM curve, but it is good enough to drive around town which is what I do most of the time.

Obviously I don't have my slips out here, but I know in the 1/4 I trapped 113mph for an 11.89 on my second pass. I had to ease into the gas until I was into 2nd gear, I did not launch hard off the line since I spun like crazy on the first pass. My 60' was terrible, close to 2.0 if I recall.

Any thoughts on what kind of potential I have left with a better rearend, tires and tune?

I'm hoping to swap in a TKO-600 and a 8.8 with 3.73's or 4.11's this coming summer. No idea what'll I'll be running then but I wanted to share.

To some extent it depends on what your goals are. How often are you going to take the car to the drag strip....or will most of the time be spent "good enough to drive around town which is what I do most of the time".

    wow that is fast.

You must have a pretty stout motor to pull a 12 with a open rear!

its hard to figure out how much faster you will go because high 11's at 113 is pretty well matched, but then throw in that you have a 2.0 60ft because you cant really get into the throttle and it throws the whole curve off. If you went high 11's at 117 with a 2.0 60ft id say that would be more like it because the mph would make up for the bad 60ft. get that thing to hook and we can do a little more calculating on hp

Thanks guys. I'm just doing a little bench racing to keep my mind occupied out here. Making plans for when I get home. Based on what I have seen I'm pretty happy with those first two passes (11.9x and 11.89). My Maverick will always been a street car, but I like taking it down to the track on occasion. Of course, much faster and I'm going to have to cage it to run locally.
