What are you guys doing for washing your cars at home? I found this:

    http://www.backwoodshome.com/articles2/yago133.html

That's an awesome set up but don't have the money or the need really. I was thinking about building something to go on the garden hose with a charcoal filter or something so the rinse water doesn't leave spots. I also had the idea of getting a couple of irrigation solenoid valves and having an on demand soap injector.

Any of you guys cook something up that works good?

I'm a cheap Maverick owner...I use a 5 gallon plastic bucket, rag and a garden hose. But I do have a chamois towel to keep the water spots at bay

    you need a SHAM-WOW!

i as well am cheap, i personally just use a larger (orange) bucket, a nice soft mitten washer thingy? meant for washing cars anyways..and my hose is black; paid good money for it so it never kinks :yup: and then when im done with that it gets hit with the SHAMWOW! no one wants water spots.

and really it takes me probably 20mins max to wash and dry it because it always has a good coat of wax and all the dust really just runs right off.

A quick Google search shows Sham-Wow infomercial is a scam and nothing more than a regular chamois towel. I use this- http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sma-10-120 My rag is not a red shop rag, bathroom towel or tee shirt...it's long nap microfiber rag meant for washing cars (never use a sponge...it holds dirt). But, like you, my hose is industrial grade 5/8" black water hose (with a gold stripe) that cost a bunch of money. You need to get a white bucket to replace your orange bucket then we will have the exact same equipment when we wash our cars

LOL.. it's so damned funny to see others who've figured out the same screwball idea's I've come up with through the years too! My neighbors always tease the hell out of me for some of these hairbrained idea's I come up with. That is.. until they actually have to do all their work the old fashioned manual way.

About 7 years ago I was finishing up blowing the end of my driveway as the kids were washing my main work van. I shut the blower off and watched them finish up the last of the rinsing.. and then that little light went off in my head to see how much time it could save us. Now when we shammy it off, we don't even need to twist the shammy until the very end of the wipedown.

And it's a pretty funny bonus to see the kids fight over who gets to use the backpack blower as if it's not even a chore that they didn't want to do in the first place. Which of course makes me feel even smarter for pulling the wool over their little slave laboring eyes. :dancing:

PS. I used to use my pressure washer most of the time.. but the setup/teardown and putaway time washes away(pun intended) much of the time saved over the old fashioned garden hose anyways. But when I did use it more often.. I used the included chemical injector attachment to siphon the detergents right into the pressure stream. You can also add anti-spotting surfactants for the final rinse too.. but they aren't perfect either and cost enough to push you back to the old shammy method in the end.

Your description is just like the Mr. Clean system that has been out for about the past 10 years or more. I have one and it works well. Mine was less than half this price at WalMart.

I bought a wand from our tool guy that hooks to a water hose and a compressor hose. It has a soap dispenser. It's garbage. Don't ever waste your money on one of those.

Me too! Although I use one of the "Absorber" artificial chamois to dry with. It has a nice tube to store it in so that it stays damp when not in use.

I have one...works great....but can't get filters for it anymore. I see them on ebay, but I don't think they MAKE the filters anymore.

Everyone says good things about the Mr Clean thing. My buddy said he had one and it worked great but I went looking for one and I guess they dont make it anymore. That's what got me thinking (overthinking would be more accurate) about some sort of set up lol!

I had one it worked decent but for some reason it always leaked soap when it was not being used.

in his defense though.. if you had the kind of cash he made off those things?.. you might have gotten yourself pinched a time or two as well. :dancing:
