Finally started... Update with new wheels and tires 1/25

First project completed. Bought myself a kit for Xmas, scarebird type. Came with everything needed besides the master cylinder. Installed the kit yesterday and while I was at it went ahead and replaced the rear wheel cylinders, shoes were still like new as the car has been pretty much just sitting for the last ten years. The kit was listed for the 70-73 Mustang, everything bolted right up, no mods needed. Did not come with master cylinder, went out yesterday to get a manual disc cylinder, but nobody in town had it so went with the drum master. Will give it a try and see how it works, if I think I need the other master and proportioning valve after driving, I will just do it next, hopefully will be Ok.

It has been raining for two days straight so I haven't driven it yet but pedal feels nice backing in and out of garage. Really don't want to drive on the new setup while its raining so I can hear and feel everything I need to while driving the first time, maybe tomorrow I will be able to get it out. Took some pics after backing it out of the garage for the first time in 5 years. The paint doesn't look as good as in the pics when wet. It is really faded and starting to get some chipping and a little rust developing in some spots. My dad and I painted it ourselves in 95'. I bought the car in 92', a couple of months after I turned 18. It was all original with 302, C4, 3.00 gear, P/S, A/C, red with black stripes and vinyl top. Also in 95 I built the engine in the pics, trans, and rearend.

Engine.... 302 .030 over, TRW forged pistons, Comp Cams 280H, Roller Tip Rockers, 66' 289 Home Ported Heads with stock valves, Holley Street Dominator Intake, Edelbrock 600 Carb

Transmission.... C4, standard rebuild with B&M shift kit, 2500 stall Boss Hog Converter

Rear.... Installed Trac-Loc Carrier from Currie Ent., with 4.11 Richmond gears

Basically built it to mess around with all my buddies in their 5.0 Mustangs and Camaros and it did pretty well back then.

    New plans....
    -Brakes(done)
-Wheels and Tires(can't decide what I like yet, size probably 15x8 rear, 15x6 or 7 front)
-Needs some body work and then paint(liking a lot of different shades of blue, definitely changing from the red)
    -Front seat needs upholstery work
    -Dash Cap
    -Stereo/CD Player/Speakers
-Engine(like what I have but starting to think about a 347)
-Trans(rebuild and converter to match whatever I decide on engine)
-Rear( may drop down to 3.55 gear more pleasant longer trips, not sure yet)
Timeline, no idea, hopefully finished in the next year or two with some luck and enough money, but who really knows, just glad to be getting started on it.

Kind of long winded but just wanted to get you to where I am now....

Good pictures! 5 years is a long time!!

I don't know about using the drum master cylinder instead of the disc one, but everything else looks good. You may also want to look at an adjustable proportioning valve or at least an OEM disc one.

I hope you don't mind, but since you shared a picture of your VIN, I took the liberty of adding your car to the list...

Looks awesome!! Reminds me of my first Maverick. Lots of guys have used drum/drum master with disc brakes, just see how it feels. What are the calipers from?

Hey thanks, I see in that thread where some had added junk yard vins. I saw a 73 and 76 in a local yard a few weeks ago, might go back and get a couple of things if they are still there and get the vins too. I think the 76 still had all its disc brake hardware also.

Hey, thanks. I am really happy with the way things went together. Still haven't driven yet. Would like to be dry my first time out. It was 70 degrees and raining all day Saturday and Sunday and yesterday the temp dropped to the upper 20's with a little freezing rain and more expected today. Hopefully all this weather will pass so I can try it out in a couple of days.:)

    Wheels and Tires

Got new wheels and tires this week, my old tires were about dry rotted from sitting so long and decided it was time for new wheels too. Always liked the stock caps and wanted a bigger tire so went with the Wheel Vintiques 62 series.

    Back... 15x8 4.25bs with 275/60 Mastercraft Avenger G/T
    Front... 15x6 3.75bs with 215/70 Mastercraft Avenger G/T
Got the wheels and tires from summit and shipping was free, I tried a few local shops for tires but none of them were within $20-25 of summit for the same brand tire.

I bought these rims after researching on here and in other car forums and seeing them on the cars I thought it was exactly what I wanted and after mounting them I really like them. The back is about a 1/4" from the spring and I had to bend the bump stop brackets back about a 1/4" to feel comfortable with how far they were from the sidewalls. I can just squeeze a finger between the front inside of the wheel wells and the tires. I think it will be ok with how stiff my springs are but I might add and 1/8" spacer just for a little piece of mind, I have plenty of room to move them out. Plan on painting them to match whatever color I go with for the car or maybe black, don't know yet.

I drove it and really like the stance, it sits about 1" higher in back when measuring from the bottom of the body in front of the back tire and behind the front tire. Never updated on the feel of the brakes either, they feel really good, the pedal feels nice and it sure stops better. Up next I have to get to work on the front end, my strut rod bushings are shot, the left side is really bad, starting to get some major slop. Anybody ordered a complete front end kit? I will probably just go ahead and do everything while I am into it.

Curious....how do you get the back hupcaps off now? They seem pretty darn deep in there.
