When I first bought my Maverick we realised that the stock tail lamps just didnt take up enough space on the back panel. I had seen how some Brazilian Maverick had Shelby tail lamps and it looked pretty good. I have always been a big torino fan and we decidedd we would use lights off a 1970 torino. Luckily they used the same two bulb design as the stock lamps so no wiring work was needed. However we are doing a lot of cutting. So far we are almost done! Sorry no pics yet!
We plan on it looking a lot like this but we are keeping the original rear piece and painting it black
Pics Finally managed to upload the photos of the project. Since these were taken we have painted the tail panel flat black among other things.
started work on this again. when i bought my lights they didn't come with rings and i am having some made because my lenses are from the cobra model. will be making extras seeing if there may be any interest. Making them from 1/4" stainless with out studs till after cutting maybe adding extra studs to seal up the ends. and thinking about 9 small led bulbs under the red lenses.
They'll look great! Note: the foam "gasket' on the light panel probably has lost some pliability. I used soap & water and gave it an thorough rinse. Seemed to loosen-up the foam rubber. I also put a thin foam gasket (1/8" thick or so) on the inside back panel. It compressed nicely to seal the light assembly to the panel. My original lamp sockets were in very bad shape. The new ones that I purchased made very poor ground contact, so I got the kind that have a ground lug (for the 1157 bulb - turn/stop light), and soldered on a male spade lug to the back-up light socket. I connected all the bulb socket grounds to the chassis.
i have some single leds mounted on a small stud and thinking of putting 9 in per side 4 for running and 5 for brake/ turn lights back up i have 2 6" bar leds i am putting in a home made spoiler with a backup camera.
