Thanks guys , and yes the cap is NOS and was in the original box. Lorraine picked this one over all of the other types (including billet aftermarket)available. This entire build is being done to her taste and she is picking every component of the car to be exactly the way she wants it.
Thanks for the wheel spec's.. very nice cap.. and smart man to leave yourself on "out" there. Course.. if something doesn't end up perfect in the end.. it'll always fall back to the old.. "damned if you do.. and damned if you don't" rule.
I'm very curios as well if it was welded all the way or tacked and filled.. Filling seems a lot easier, but will it hold or crack..? Anyways.. It looks damn nice.
Freddy is an ace when it comes to body and fab. work. he did a fender for Jeff's car, Earl's cowl repair, rear spoiler on Mine and now the quarter drops and quarter patch on Lorraine`s Maverick. he welded it inside and out. worked the seam (with no filler) to look like "it never happened"... example...he took an early 50s Ford truck hood, split it into 1/4s, made it longer and wider to fit another truck...
Just one question, was the cut for the patch made on the body line ? It appears to me that this is how it was done, am i seeing this right ?
wow im impressed...i wish he was at my house doing mine..the quality of that is something else...no filler..crazy.
For anyone interested. Loraine decided she wanted something other than this maverick so it and most of the parts we've accumulated are now for SALE. I will be making a post in the " Classified " forums soon. I have been messing with these cars for 34 years and this is one of the most solid cars I have ever seen to build.
