well i was comparing paint prices from summit/eastwood vs my local dealers...its about a 1/6th of the price ordering this stuff..the color i found on summit is perfect (hopefully i wouldnt die) but they don't ship paint apparently..is there anywhere that will? eastwood page kept freezing on me... am i just stuck with paying top dollar local for some regular 'ol paint that doesn't even have metallic flake. i can get the flake added...but the price of that is just stupid and not worth it to me.
most any paint supplier should be able to special order many different products for you ..but the additional problem will be that they mark up the products you buy and also pass the shipping charges onto you in the process. Which, on the reread, you seem to have found out already. and they should be able to match any color you like too.
We also have low VOC laws in Canada, so they may ship it, but Customs may not allow it into the country.

If you care at all about the final finish don't use Eastwood or Summit paint.Let me rephrase that, the base coats are super transparent so budget yourself another quart of paint for a base color. The clear lays down with similar texture to cottage cheese.Yes it can be sanded and polished but time is money in my books. The other concern i have with not locally buying paint comes from a friends recent experiance. He supplied the painter with Eastwood candy red paint along with reducers and hardeners. The painter had trouble with paint coverage and ran out of base.It was 2 weeks before more paint came in so basically all the paint he bought the first time was a total waste. If the paint had been bought locally the painter could have had the supplier bring more when he realized that he was running out. Just my opinion, maybee i'm too cautious.
I see what your saying. My previous paint covered better than I ever expected but I've heard others that it's like tinted water...so I should probably just man up and buy paint locally ....this way I have someone to scream at. I'll have to go check out if they have any metallic oranges...is 500 dollars for base/clear with ruducer and hardener a decent deal? Thats for reg color with no metallic.
Buy the metal flake and add it to the paint yourself. Google it, there are sites that sell just the flakes, in different sizes.
I'm not a painter or body many by any means.. But I was told that adding aftermarket flakes to the paint can sometimes make them "glob" up and shoot out? I have no idea.. Just what i was told not sure how true it is.. Who would you use to order flakes from if you were looking to do it? Is there different quality flakes?
Thats not too bad of a price depending on brand. If that's $500 for some unknown manufacturer well i would say it's too much.I use alot of Dupont and Akzo Nobel (Sikkens) products and it's funny what you discover.Dupont has a low line of products called NASON, i have sprayed many times. The basecoats are decent and the clear if fine for most jobs but doesn't flow the greatest.Sikkens also has a low line called LESSONAL, the clear is amazing! it lays down super smooth and sprays nicer than the higher priced Sikkens clear. So do some shopping around get some prices and ask lots of questions that part is all free, once you buy the paint it's yours. On your color do some looking around for a factory color that is along the lines you want. You maybee surprized that the price is not that much more for a mettalic or pearl color than your soild Orange. Thanks those pictures are like the color I'm leaning towards..I seen it on a dodge today.. You think black comet stripes (early ones) would make it look stupid with the metallic color?.. I purchased primer today and I think I'll be using the same brand of base:clear It's a ppg product called omni, I talked to a few guys who have sprayed it and apparently it's very forgiving, easy to spray and covers well. We will see though, I'm hoping to prime the main body tomorrow sometime. Oh.. And the price for a gallon of this primer with reducer Nd hardeners was 149.03 after 12% tax. Hope it was a decent deal lol.
Your on the right track and just what Dave said better than Eastwood or Summit.I like your Idea with the Comet stripes, glad you didn't say Shelby stripes over the car i really hate that on a car they don't belong on.Here's a 65 Mustang i just finished using Nason base and Lessonal Clear. This is straight out of the booth no polishing.
