Any recommendations of suppliers? Mine is a 70 with medium blue interior. Getting ready to paint the dash and inner doors. The paint I bought is like water. Rainbow brand from one of the Mustang places. I had this link saved from a prior post that someone else used. http://www.npdlink.com/store/products/VP_16049-141609-2979.html Any other suggestions or experience?
Notice that there is the quite a bit of grain and texture on the doors. If you use thick paint you will lose that texture ... that is why the paint is so thin.
i've used SEM a couple times now..will be using again on door panels/dash in the upcoiming weeks and i will be doing my chevelle dash/arm rests with it as well..ill use there products until i end up with a major problem..there one of the few i have not had an issue with. i tried to use some other brand on my buddys '54 chev..what a joke..like you said the paint was water & it turned out to be a mess... and with the grain on the doors..SEM goes on somewhat thin but covers very well, i still have all my grain.
No it's literally like tinted clear. No way it would cover anything. I've had it too long to return. When my dad used to work for a Ford dealer, we would get me their interior lacquer paint and it worked great but that was many years ago.
I went to the local Paint guy with a vinyl sample of the Dark Blue ('cause I needed to paint the door panels as well as the dash, etc) and he colour mixed some SEM that I sprayed on the dash plastic / pad / metal. The mix was just right for an easy spray and matched perfect. He sold me one tin made to match and one tin that was close to use as a base. I think it all together cost @ $100 and did all of the dash pieces (pad, metal, glove box, etc), doors and door panels, and pillars.
This is another option NPD offers: http://www.npdlink.com/store/products/mustang_interior_paint_spray_lacquer-107580-2978.html I'm thinking the lacquer may be a little more "grain friendly" for the doors. From the times I've used lacquer, it goes on thin and covers pretty good.
Opted for the lacquer. I noticed the paint another member posted (the first link) says flexible paint for vinyl. I need to get at least the top of my dash painted before the windshield goes in.
1974 Tan Interior paint Code/Name? -Doing a floor shift conversion on a 1974 Maverick LDO Tan interior steering column. Does anyone have the paint name or code for the factory Tan color? Thanks
I had to look a pic of tan LDO interior, but if the pics I saw were accurate, the doors looked close to 67 Mustang parchment and the dash looked 68 Mustang saddle.
