Hey guys, are there any easy methods to check motor mounts without just replacing them? Maybe something like putting a jack under the motor and just barely pressing it up? Anything?

Rev the motor and see if the engine rocks sideways more than it should.

Would I hear it clunking or something when going into gear? Not sure what you mean by footbraking it. :hmmm:

If you put it in gear, put your foot on the brake and punch the gas, and your engine tries to jump out of the engine bay, you need new mounts. If the whole car tries to jump onto 2 wheels your in the clear. (but you may need to look at your suspension)

Ok, that sounds easy enough...not to mention fun. :burnout:

What's a reasonable amount of movement? I'll be looking thru the windshield at the top of the carb/air filter.

As in, ANY cracks or just anything substantial looking?

With the engine just replaced, bad motor mounts should have been obvious...

I talked to one of the mechanics at that shop and he said they didn't appear to be bad. That's not saying much, so I'll still have a look.

I took a look at the mounts....they don't APPEAR to have collapsed, but they do have some small cracks on the outside. I stood on the brakes and punched it and didn't notice any abnormal amount of movement. I haven't gotten to jack it up yet though. Maybe this weekend I'll try that.
