what trans are you using and why?

    Yes, Chris has been around for a long time and done almost every type of motorsport racing there is..................and his products are really nice.
    How about some more pictures of your car....................would really like to hear about the build also........................as one racer to the next.

    I dont know exactly what model heads just yet as he hasnt ordered anything yet. I told him I dont want him to order anything until everything is paid for so we can get everything right about the same time so he can go ahead and start his part of the assembly. I dont want the parts to come in here and there and sit on a shelf waiting for me to finish paying for other parts.

    hey big ford indeed thats an awesome rear end there. is that what they call back halving your car?

    I went by chris alstons chassis shop and now have a direction of parts needed that will allow me to have a back seat in my car and still handle the power my car is going to produce.

    I would like to know more about everyones car that is finished regardless of street/ strip or strictly drag.

    the guy at the shop showed me some affordable and realistic front end upgrades for my car without having to go with a complete M2 style front end. :thumbs2:

    oh and I stopped by my machine shop and asked about pump gas and was reassured it will run and produce the power Im after ON PUMP GAS
    so time will tell for sure

    So, since you are hitting some of heavy hitters in Sacramento area, you really need to go by SPD and talk with the owner, Chris Hill. They build some of the nicest headers and headers components you will ever see..............plus Chris puts what he builds on his Bonneville car and has some records under his belt. He also builds headers for some of the Cup Car teams and in general is really a nice guy......................and there is know one more knowledgeable when it comes to making headers..............and his header parts are second to none.
    You can tell him John Speer with the Maverick that he mod'd the Dawson headers and also had him build some special merge collectors for a Flathead Cadillac powered Bonneville car.....................he has some of the best TIG welders I have ever seen and all of the header parts are generated by a CAD program and bent on a computer CNC machine.......................just someone good to know.........................................................IMHO

    damn hes right around the corner from me :Handshake
    Ill be heading by there tomorrow. now that the garage is cleaned up maybe Ill take my car with me.
    I left it home today forgot actually but nice people over at the chassis place. definitely helpful and I now have a direction to go in.
    he told me pretty much what my guy was telling me other than the spool. he told me to go with a 9" with a strange possi system and gave me some idea of the braces and connectors Ill be needing.

    Glad you visited Chris............he is a great guy and won't steer you wrong.
    I didn't say anything about the spool, but the only thing a spool is good for is the drag strip....................have seen too many people get into serious trouble when using them on the street............especially trying to go around corners at any speed..................glad they said something............and thought they would.

    Yes, by all means pay Chris Hill a visit....................I wouldn't go anywhere else when it comes to header design and advice.

    a few company's are now making a 35 spline torsen style lsds. eaton and strange are pushing their new units. im installing a strange one this week when it gets in. its going into an off road truck that gets driven on the street. this should be a good test to durability of these.

    junrai, glad to see you finding the right experts in your neighbor hood to get it done right. i will be following to see how 1000hp can be made on a supercharged small block on pump gas. from what i understand pump gas can not be squeezed enough in a small block to to make 1000 hp before it will self ignite.
    the above mention of dual fuel set ups is the way to go.
    the cars that do claim 1000hp on pump gas are really big displacement. im talking well over 500 cubes.
    the other thing is going supercharged to get to 1000 hp is harder. the supercharger consumes considerable hp to make the hp. with a turbo moving the same amount of air you will see considerably more hp with less stress on the engine components.

    please keep posting the details of your build we will be paying close attention and i hope to learn a thing or two.

    I agree It'll be very hard to keep fuel from pre igniting, which is another reason a turbo would be better as you could easily go to a low boost street tune. You'll never be able to use anywhere close to 1000hp on the street anyway. My car was probably about 450whp and would roast street tires from a 50mph roll, really impressive to look at(and fun) but kinda pointless. Another benefit of a turbo is full boost at lower rpms.

    I'm running a 460 Ford, bored & stroked to 598, with C460 heads and a 1250 dominator on pump gas, 10:1 compression.

    Thanks.. now I can't stop drooling. I absolutely LOVE the 385 series motors and had planned on one when I longed for one of these cars many years ago. Now I just want to rev the snot out of it while turning corners really fast.. so my direction has changed considerably.

    I'm very interested in your firewall mod's from an engine setback standpoint. Do you have a bild thread here.. or anywhere else(460.com?).. If not.. may I PM you briefly about the firewall work if you have a few minutes?

    Here are 3 pics: first one is the Alston square tube frame (actually rectangle), welded from the taillight panel all the way to the radiator support. Not much Maverick there at that point! Second pic frame is done with "struts" welded on each side of the frame to the rocker panel. Roll cage built over frame. Rear suspension installed, 9" Ford w/35-spline axles/spool, wilwood disc brakes, Alston coil-over shocks, adjustable ladder bars. Third pic shows motor setback 8" and front suspension almost complete, rack & pinion, coil over shock also. All bare steel and parts shown from Chris Alston. Dave

    so I take it this is headed for purpose built race car? incredible the work that has gone into teh car already. is that a custom frame? looking at the pics I see youre doing the welding yourself? or is that a pic from a shop?

    taking a shot in the dark here but there wont be room for a back seat right?

    Yeah Junrai,I`d listen to some of the other guys,500hp is more than enough to get you killed on the street.All those power adders are unpredictable,you need a powerplant that is not going to throw you any surprizes,they are hard enough to handle at the track.
