If the solenoid is the original equipment, and not dura spark, there are two small wires attached, one is red/blue and is powered during start from the ignition switch, the other is red/green and is a contact that is closed to the starter supply wire(big terminal that powers the starter) for 12 volts to the coil during cranking. This contact in the solenoid will open after the starter is released and indicate whatever voltage is available to the coil. If it has a resistor wire, it will be 8-9 volts since it is wired to the power side of the coil. Yours may be wired totally different depending on how it is equipped. :Handshake
Yea mine is custom wired, the only thing it is doing for my ignition is pulling a relay. Thus it gave me a handy key on 12V power source for accessory use. It would also make a very clean place to pull a relay to power a new accessory fuse box as you could put the relay under the hood right by the battery. That would imo be a cleaner installation than stuffing more and more crap under the dash. The main reason I don't want to use the accessory option from the ignition is that I don't want to be powering all my accessory stuff if the engine isn't running. My key is so worn you can take it out of the ignition with it in the accessory position, and I don't want to kill my battery for not noticing that my add-ons are powered up.
