Buick rims for Maverick

I found a pair of '82'84 Buick Regal factory rims that fit my 73 Maverick. They were kinda rough when I got them but cleaned up nicely. Now I need to find two more for the rear. 14inch. 4.25 bolt pattern. I found a couple on ebay but they didn't have the centercap or trim ring.

 

'73 Mavericks have a 4.50" bolt pattern.

 

That's what I thought too. For some reason mine has the 4.25 bolt pattern. I just measured them again. I had bought a set of tires that was mounted on 4.5 ford rims and they did not fit. The buick rims are 4.25 and will fit.

 

That makes no sense. I wonder if you're measuring them properly. 5-lug is measured center to outside. 4-lug would be measured center to center.

Of course all that really matters is that they fit your car, which apparently they do.

 

Have you actually put the rim on your car?

 

I measured from center hole to center hole. The bolt pattern with that measurement is 4.25 on the Maverick and on the buick rims. The bolt pattern on the rims and tires I bought is 4.50 center hole to center hole and would not fit the Maverick. The buick rims bolt right up.

 

Oh Yeah, I test fitted them to make sure.

 

What you have pictured is not a Buick rim. A 4-1/2" (Ford) bolt pattern refers to the BOLT CIRCLE. That would be a 4-1/2" circle, centered on the hub, which intersects the centerlines of the lug nut holes.

The wheel appears to be a Ford styled steel wheel, which is why it fits your Ford.

 

Ok, cool. The man I got them from said they came off a buick. '82-'84. I'm just glad they fit.

Buick rims are similar but have narrower, curved spokes (and a GM bolt circle).

What model fords had these type wheels? It will help in trying to locate two more.

 

The came in both 6" and 7" widths. 6" on Maverick/Comet and Granada/Monarch. 7" on Torino/Ranchero/Elite/LTD II/Cougar/Montego.

When did GM start using 5x4.50" bolt pattern? I knew someone who had an Oldsmobile minivan that used the same bolt pattern as the old Ford wheels. 'Never knew Buick did the same.

 

I was told by the man I got the wheels from that they are on the rear axle of a Buick. I'm thinking the rear end was a ford. I just know they fit. Some older mustangs and Torinos had that style rims as well as Fairlanes.
