Just got a call from the shop. They are putting my car back together and said the dash cap won't fit snugly over the pad. You can still see the old gray pad around the edges of the black pad. Almost like the cap is to small. Any ideas?
Yup, mine shows too... I had to fill all the cracks with black rtv so they don't show up as bad... I can't see it while I'm driving, but looking through the windshield from the outside you can see it....
They're not a perfect fit as far as full coverage, but I'm pretty sure you'll be the only one to notice once it's on.
Paint the edges of the old dash the same color as the new cap. We have had to do that to every one we have ever installed.
why not actually fix the pad thats there? I had mine fixed by filling in the cracks then smoothing it out then coved it with nogahide. looks as good as the day it was made
Just use the cap, I have yet to see a recovered dash pad look even close to the way they did from the factory. They are either too puffy, or the edges are rounded off.
I never have liked the caps.. It is better than seeing a bunch of cracks but I would rather recover one.. One day I will see if I can do my extra one with denim. .. Stretchy denim
my neighbor runs an upholstery shop and he did my whole interior from headliner to carpet for like $1000 for material and labor the dash pad was part of the deal I took it off and gave it to him and about a week later I got it back good as new.
