I got brake fluid on the outer ring of my autographed breather cover. I didnt have that color paint anymore so this was my solution. The color looks the same in the pic, but its not. The black stripe covers the paint line. I added the red one for some flavor. What do ya think? Good?
It doesnt look bad but it is obvious its not the same color. Looks like you used the wrong ford blue, the darker ford blue was for older cars (60's and back?).
My original engine was ford dark blue. It's a 72. Some of the parts store paints are different colors for different brands even if you technically pick the "correct" one. Even if it doesn't match, it's better than losing the signature.
From what I've seen that's true, the repo paints are all over the board and seems the original paint often lightened considerably with age...
It's because of the way that you have to mix pigments to achieve blue. There is almost zero consistency between batches even on high end mixers. Just wait until you have to pigment match a royal purple. I've watched professional mixers spend a whole day getting purples right.
There are several coats of paint on the motor and they all different shades. I had started out using the light blue and ran out. Auto Zone actually had the darker blue which helped get it close. I painted the lower portion of the breather yesterday so its close to the same color. Everything below is coming out next year to make way for a fresh 250. I was always confused as to which color blue, light or dark, I was supposed to use. Looks like its the dark one.
Krylon Ford blue engine paint is pretty close. I touched up my vapour canister, and it's pretty close. I get it from NPD.
