I had an opportunity to buy some 351C heads Gromm had put a lot of time into last year..................but even though they were flowing around 325 @.700 lift I just couldn't bring myself to get them because they were the original cast heads.................................just too heavy.
For the next motor I'd either like to try the CHI 3v260CNC or the C3 Roush/Yates head. I think 50cc chambers and some healthy CR. I would hope to make upwards of 750hp..................a good 100+hp more than the current stock block motor.
Those CHI heads are a beautiful piece......................but the price is pretty steep...........................we will see.

I'd sure like to see some out of the box flow numbers and CNC'd numbers above .700 lift. They do look nice, but so do the CHI and C3..........and at that point I will be going with shaft rockers like the Jesel or Crower......

I am one of the last dying breeds running a Boss 302 in a Maverick, have been running one since 1985, I used to run the Hedman husler hedders with the flat collector, then went to the Tubular Automotive headers, I had them coated so they were almost 700.00 by the time I was done.
when I bought my 70 cougar Eliminator Boss302 car, I retired the original Boss302 heads and did a set of Boss351 heads, I did a bunch of exhaust work, and run the MPG stinger exhaust plates, and filled the intake runner with epoxy. the exhaust originally flowed somewhere around 180, by the time we were done, it was 225 @ 700 lift, the intake flows 325 at 700 lift.

I have run several intakes including my Roush intake, but after doing ALOT of work on a B&A track manifold, I have made the most power with that, the floor was filled to match the filled intake, and the upper part has been ported to match the 4bbl head. the .040 stock stroke motor makes just over 500hp @ 8500 rpm, and I have run a best of 10.58 @ 126 mph. I am putting a 2.92 low gear set in a c4, and am hoping that will pick me up some more.

    Duane

and I run stock shock towers, with the valve cover spacers to clear the stud girdle, its a tight fit

You are lucky to have a "Stock Tower" car with the Boss. The person that originally built and campaigned my car had stock towers and a Boss302 with BB TopLoader.....................and the car ran in mid to low 10's in the B/SM class from 1979 until they disbanded it in 1981.
I would love to put the car back to the way it was and go race in the SM classes...........although I had my fill of class racing with NHRA many years ago......................

You were pretty lucky to only pay $700 for a set of headers, the custom KOOKs can run up to $1500.

Im thinking you get a better header with Kooks than a engine swap header from Tubular automotive. my brother spent well over a grand for a set of step headers for his H/SA 72 GTO, and I wouldn't compare them to a set of super comps.

If you can afford them Kooks is the way to go.I know a guy that has an 82 Merc. Capri,434 Windsor with a Liberty 4 spd,5.5 sec in the 1/8 mile w/ Brodix hds,$1500 Kooks headers.
