Did a search but can't seem to find info regarding what kind of paint is on the original metal dash. Lacquer or enamel? I have a 74. Thanks!
The early-mid 60's Ford used lacquer paint for the interior. Don't know what they used in the mid to 70's

I can tell you that ordinary rubbing alcohol will remove the paint rather easily, learned that trying to get a sticker off of mine.
One of the main ingredients in Lacquer thinner is alcohol. Might be a clue to what the factory sprayed. Naphtha (lighter fluid) works well for old stickers and tape residue and it is very safe for most paints. Around here we use a product called "Goo-be-Gone" for sticky stuff like gum and tape.
I'm fairly certain that my 70 was shot with interior lacquer from the factory. I got the car with 6000 miles and original paint. Everywhere that the interior lacquer over-sprayed on the exterior (tops of doors and sides of roof over the doors), the paint was cracking. When I stripped the Pastel Blue off I found blue interior paint underneath in all of the areas that were cracking.
Thanks for the replies, 71mavrk, the dash color is dark blue. And, I think Acornridgeman is onto something. I tried a bit of laquer thinner on the ash tray and the paint didn't come off all that well. Enamel?
Well, talk to Dupont and ask what Lucite is. I think it is enamel. The only dark blue I see in my '71 paint chips is a metalic, 9152LH. Micah
Enamel is a softer finish than lacquer. Lacquer is a hard finish and that's why it cracks over time but it shines great when buffed. As far as I know there was only a medium blue in early Mavericks and some of the later ones had a lighter blue.
what about orange interior color Can't seem to come up for the orange interor color for my 74 grabber. Any thoughts out there? I need the code soon.
There is an orange interior color called Medium Orange Poly that was used in 1974. It was a semi-gloss color used on the lower instrument panel, glove box and ash tray. The Ditzler code is 60697. I'm not sure if that is the color you are looking for but it's the only one listed in the 1974 PPG Ford paint chip books. It's on a supplement page so there is no picture of the color.
Thanks, just called my local oriely's where we get our paint and they can't make that Ditzler code go anywhere. Does anyone have anything else that might help me? I have the exterior orange paint code but I don't think it's the same for the interior dash as described here. I would like to get this right on.
