Because I have a spare motor and the truck needs a motor and a trans, and I have my daily driver already, just a thought ive been thinking
Rangers are just awesome, id never trade mine in. Nobody could ever say that they would know whats under the hood lol
I put a Buick 231 V6 with a Saginaw 4 speed into a 78 Toyota pickup. It was pretty easy, just had to make mounts and a tranny crossmember. I even used the stock Toyota hydraulic clutch slave cylinder, just had to build a new bracket and use a longer pushrod. It was about the same length as the stock 4 banger, I figure a 302 would need a recessed firewall. It would be a Hoss if you did it, you'd probably need 500 lbs of lead in the back bumper just to get traction!
I'm sure someone makes a conversion kit, someone I know has an early 90's 4 runner with a 350, so maybe the make sbf mount too.

I saw an early 90's toyota pickup at a cruise in with a 5.0 in it. The trans tunnel was modified to clear the bellhousing so the motor could sit as far back as possible, and the core support was modified so the radiator could sit as far forward as possible.. It was still extremely tight up front. Personally I'd just sell the toy and find a cheap Ranger.
http://www.northwestoffroad.com/parts/engineswap.php will have all the adapters for the install you will ever need to do the job. There are many more out there also.
I have a 90 yota, and I myself have looked into it. There are kits online for putting in a chev 305 or 350, because they drop in fairly easy with little modifications. But I recall to make a 302 fit in you have to push back the fire wall quite abit for everything to fit in properly.
I've seen plenty of those swaps through the years.. and can't say that I know much about the actual logistics involved here.. but that makes no sense when you consider that the 302 is a smaller engine that the SBC. Especially considering that the Chevy has a rear-mount disty to worry about. If it can be made to eat the Chevy.. it should swallow the little Ford even easier.
thats the trick right their. the traditional ford water pump and pulley locations make it longer than the chevy 350. going to the short explorer front accessory package really helps.
