Ok I have 72 maverick 4 door. I was wondering if it was possible to adjust the break pedal so it is lower to the floor. I feel the strech from the gas pedal and having to lift your leg so high to get to the break pedal
if the wrong push rod was used on a replacement master cylinder the brake pedal will be too high. the maverick uses a shorter push rod than most other applications that share the same master cylinder. most new master cylinders will come with 2 push rods. the shorter one will locate the pedal at the stock proper height. i have taken the push rods and cut them in half and remove some extra then tap them with threads and used a long nut to be able to make it adjustable.
Lol like ive said before im very new at all this anyway to translate a way for dummies lol. Not really sure where to look for master cylinder excpept guessing its under stearing wheel somewhere by the pedals
The master cylinder is inside the engine compartment, it's got a rectangular steel cover held in place by a wire bail. The pushrod connects the brake pedal to it, it runs from the pedal (up under the dash) and plugs into the rear of the master cylinder which fits into a hole thru the firewall held in place with two bolts.
Yep, you need a shorter push rod. Make sure you replace the retaining clip because without that, it would be very unsafe.
It could be that the car has the correct push rod....it's just an old car and that was the way they were designed. Maverick's can't be compared to today's cars.
