I hate to be nit-picky, and I sure don't like new rules constantly added to anything, anywhere, but...

When someone posts something for sale, we should respect that person's attempt at making a sale, and refrain from making negative comments on said item.

Just because you don't like the style of an item, or because you are lucky enough to have access to the same item for cheaper, does not mean you should state that on the thread.

PM a potential buyer who shows interest, if you think they are getting ripped off, but don't post to the actual "For Sale" thread. Someone might be interested in the item, but be turned off by the comments.

Might even go for making positive comments, which I often do, if it is a good part and/or good price.

Maybe not a rule, but a suggestion in the rules section?

All good points. But I think the rules already exist in one fashion or another.

Rule #12: The classifieds are not a place to voice your opinion on value/price.
Rule #13: If you wish discuss the price, send the seller a PM or email.
Rule #14: Do not reply to a classifieds thread unless you are truly interested in the item(s).

#14 tells it all...no comments at all (good or Bad) if not interested in buying.

Everyone just seems way too sensitive.....we used to have so much more fun, now everyone wants to over analyze everything, and nit pic the $hit out of every post.

I hope those rules apply only to the Maverick and Comet Classified forum and not to the Maverick & Comet Auctions, Craigs List and other Classifieds forum. Most of the posts on the "Other" classifieds forum are not by members who are interested in buying or selling the item but the discussions are very useful.

    First line:
"To get the most out of the Maverick/Comet classifieds, please read over the following rules, guidelines and tips"
So, that would insinuate, that the rules aply to the Maverick/Comet classified only....or that's how it is worded....but who cares? People post auctions all the time, to create discussion, and that's the whole intent. But if someone is selling something personally, and someone starts to belittle them, then that parson should be told, or warned to mind their own business, if they don't like the price, then don't buy whatever is being sold, and move on. Then again, if someone is blatantly tying to rip people off, then as a community we should not support the seller...

The Ebay - Craigslist forum is a discussion forum and posting opinions and comments is fine when discussing interesting Maverick items found on the web. General forum etiquette rules apply to this forum, but it is different than the classified ad rules.

For crystal clarity, if someone posts an eBay or Craigslist comments are fine and if it is an actual member posting, refrain from ANY negative comments.

    Is this accurate?

I would say a better way to state it, is that the Ebay / CL forum is a discussion forum so comments are appropriate - and someones classified ad is not a discussion forum, it is an advertisement, and comments are not appropriate, specially negative comments.

Now we are a friendly group so there often is a bit of positive comments allowed. Example would be the recent posting of Art Bartle's Stallion in the for sale ads. Many of us have seen this car in person and positive comments about what a nice car it is were added by members to his ad. While postings like these are not encouraged under board rules, these positive posts may help a seller, as a prospective buyer could see how well liked this car is by some of the higher profile members here. A bit of helpful commenting is sometimes helpful. All in all, it is best to just stay out of the classified ads unless you are interested in buying. But as moderators we do allow certain things posted if we feel it is appropriate.

Another example was a posting for an Eastwood fender roller. A few guys that have used this roller posted how well it worked for them and it was a nice tool. Again, a positive comment that may help another person decide to buy it.

    Hope this helps ........ :tiphat:

I can't believe anybody would say anything negative about the whaletail. Would you be willing to trade a foot gas pedal and pair of pink fuzzy dice for it? :vomito:
