I have get gt40's. There is a company that make headers for the classic mustangs to run GT40P on ther cars. Try Mac Performance or Central Coast Mustangs. Mac makes good mustang products. I tried the same thing but only came up with GT40's off a cobra.
Sorry to bring up an old thread. But I'm working on a 69 302 for my maverick. I pulled it from a mustang. And I thought mine said C8OE-E. But I could be very wrong and it's a 9. Well anyhow, Thing I'm reading says they are 58.2cc which gave the 302 9.5:1 compression that year. And has the 1.78/1.45 valves. BTW....That's what I'm doing to my maverick today.......
the gt40 heads are a nice upgrade BUT the gt40p heads give you problems with the way factory exhaust and standard headers hook up something to do with spark plug clearance if I remember right
They're not all the same, there were three different combustion chambers used those years. Then there's the Thermactor passages which some have, others don't.
Also depends on whether the head was cast at the Cleveland or Windsor foundry, Windsor heads were internal... Well my book (from SA Design) says they're all the same. Pretty sure they all have thermactor passages as well. I have yet to see a set that doesn't.
Your book is wrong. Ain't the first time either that a reference book on Ford engine parts was wrong either. They're good as a reference, but just keep in mind that not all the info in them is correct. Like George Reid's "High Performance Engine parts interchange" Look on page 45, it illustrates a Boss 302 head in the lower left hand picture. The head in that picture is a 429/460 head (C8VE) And the pic picture above it is a 351C head, although it's labeled as a Boss 302 head (note the coolant passages in the deck face for the return flow back to the front of the block) The lower right picture is also a 351C as there's no coolant return passage in the intake face. There are many more mistakes in this book as well, too many to point out here. This is just one page. I've got a set of C9OE 302 heads in my shop now that don't have Thermactor passages in them. The bosses for the ports are there (in the upper corners) but there are no passages drilled in them.
As I mention in the post above, I've got a set of C9OE 302 heads, that aren't on that list.It should be noted too that the GT40 heads used on the Cobra 5.0's had smaller chambers, they were given extra milling before the heads went on the engines in production to get the chambers down to a nominal 60cc volume.
And then I milled a bit more off my GT40s before I installed them...So, .010 or .015 milled off, approximately how much does that lower the ccs?
How much difference does 1.5-2 ccs make in compression ratio, and overall engine performance? Is that pretty much negligible?
Those C9OE heads were used on passenger cars in '69 and have 56.7-59.7cc chamber, giving the rated 9.5 comp ratio... It's basically the '67 std 289 head with approx 4cc added to the chamber(odd it isn't on that list as it was mostly what was used in '69)... Ford had opened up the chambers in '68 yielding a 8.7 comp ratio for 289 & 9.0 on the 2v 302...
