Thanks! Those spray bottles contain the cleaner, water and neutralizer for the POR15, Gene. But... you're right, the Comet will need a serious disinfecting after I am done with it. I think I still have a small patch to do in the trunk. I have not looked back there in a while... I forget, lol.
after reading all 25 pages of progress and comments (yes once in a while I read all of the posts) I am ever more grateful I dont have any of those problems with rust that you do. Ive never really looked at how my cowl is welded in place but eventually I want to take it off just to clean up the inside and throw some por15 in there and have a solid surface that will never have to be touched again. I dont have any rust in there but dont want to get everything done and get my new dynomat padding and carpet in then the cowls start to leak a few years after Im done with the car. I dont ever intend to drive it in the rain especially since my engine is going to be half way through the windshield but if I go to wash my car I want everything thats supposed to be dry stay dry your car was nice before you tore it apart and I wouldve never thought it had the rust issues that it has but its coming out great and will definitely show all of the hard work youve put into it when its done. are you going to use the same wheels? they look nice on the car but definitely not very cool looking IMHO anyway what mods are you going to do to the 347? are you going to buld the 347 for a nice upgrade or are you going to race it out? my 347 when its done is going to produce somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 hp the only bad thing about the 1000hp is its costing me WAY more than I ever dreamed of spending on my car let alone the engine. I swear when I start these projects I never think about what its all going cost. I just think I can do this and it doesnt need that much work just some paint and a little of this and that and we see a show winning car in my head then I look back and see Ive spent a ton of money and say well it was more than I thought but it still doesnt need that much more then another $5k goes in to the car and I look again and repeat the same saying well it was a little more than I thought and keep spending does this happen to everyone or is it just me and my wreckless spending habbit?
Lots of spot welds that need to be cut through with a little hole sae cutter that can be bought from Harbor Freight for around 5 bucks - Ford didn't coat that area under the cowl (where the design is for water to be present) so anything is better than nothing Absolutely
Great job Rusty, I pray that everything works out for you. Keep us all up dated.Love the pictures. I also have the same problem with the cost, but then again I look at all the things I didn't do an wished I did. Everything comes with a price. But look at the end picture . You've accomplished what alot of us dream of.
Thanks! Not going to use the old wheels. I want to go 17x8 fronts and 17x9.5 in the rear. The 347 will be "healthy". Not looking for a race car, so the engine will have street manners. Thanks for the compliments! Thanks, Dennis!
No work on the Comet these days. But I do love getting NOS parts in the mail. Thanks for looking out, Brian!
Really?? Dangit.. I put one of them on my sons car before I handed it over to him. I thought about keeping it and giving him one of my faded crest ones. Nice score!
I have enjoyed reading about your build to date . Gives me hope My son and I will be able to complete his car in the next couple of year.
Thanks! I'm sure you guys will have fun in the process. Unfortunately, I have not worked on the Comet for some time now. I have a baby due in December so my time (and money) is being spent remodeling a nursery and getting baby stuffs.
