Yes.. I know.. http://www.dynamat.com/technical_installation_basic_installation.html Step 2: Size and Cut Using a razor knife or scissors, cut the Dynamat sheet to the desired shape and size (you may find a cardboard or paper template helpful.) Remove the blue release liner from the back of the Dynamat and apply the Dynamat to the prepared surface. On large surfaces, remove the release liner in sections, working your way down and across the panel.
Made the filler pieces and finished welding in around the rocker bars where they are notched through the floor this morning..... I also removed the rear brake and fuel vapor lines that run along the inside of the trans tunnel..... Then I used a wire brush on the old 4" grinder to remove the surface rust and loose stuff off the middle floors between the rockers and trans tunnel.....
Today I got everything except the power steering pump disconnected so I can remove the engine/trans from the car..... I also remove the rear bumper and rear valence panel..... Then I had to find places to put a lot of this stuff I have been removing over the last couple weeks so I have room to work..... Here's a couple pic's.....
First thing I did this morning was fix some lights in the shop, 2 have been out for a while and a 3rd went this morning..... Balasts were done so a trip to home depot for 3 new light assemblies was necessary..... After that I remove the engine and trans from the Comet..... Then I cleaned floor in the shop and turned the car around and put it back inside..... Here's the latest.....
I remove the tail lights, quarter end cap and trunk lid from the car this morning..... After that I proceeded to make a big hole in the trunk floor for the drop in gas tank..... Then made the support rails for the sides of the tank and got them tacked in place..... Here it is after removing everything off the rear..... Here it is with a big hole in the trunk(it's almost a shame to remove a piece of trunk floor that is in that condition), and the mock up tank propped in place..... The tank side support rails.....
I finished the gas tank mounting frame this morning..... After that I took some measurments for the sheet metal needed and went by work to cut what is necessary..... Here is the finished frame..... and with the tank sitting in place.....
Will the support rails be the only thing needed to contain/hold the tank? Did the 72's have the tank mounted w/ straps? Nice work!
Thank you for continuing to update this thread, Frank. I don't plan to go as far on the performance side as you, but this thread is a great resource for me planning my restomod of my at one time identical car
Yes it had the tank mounted from the bottom with straps holding it in..... The rails are a lot more then what holds the factory tank in, but I still have to put the sheet metal fill panels in the drop area which will add even more support..... Thanks, the tank in the pic's is a stock replacement 64-68 Mustang..... The tank I am actually going to use is an Aeromotive Mustang replacement with there Stealth 340 pump in it, part #18697..... I already have the Aeromotive tank, but I didn't want to mark it up doing the fab work(it's powder coated silver)..... That's my thinking, I just don't like the idea of just sheet metal holding it up..... No problem, hopefully it will help a lot of people out in some way.....
