I've been looking over the photo section and was wondering why most of the cars don't have the chrome window trim installed? is it just a styling thing or what? I have mine off right now to do some painting and now I'm trying to decide if I want to reinstall it or not.

I'd like to know how you removed it without destroying it.

Just to clarify, you're referring to the trim along the top of your door panel, correct?

I took the screw out that's at the front and slid it forward, slightly tweeking it as I went... I started out using a can opener but not enough force to ding it. yes that's the part I'm talking about.

In answer to your question, no. It came optional on a select few Mavericks starting in 1974 I believe. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one...

I used to have that car pictured below and, personally, I liked the look with full chrome trim. It made it seem more complete.

Also, I don't mean to hijack this, but that chrome trim around the taillight section in the below pic... was that common? I've never seen another Maverick with that trim.

I thought you were talking about the door frame brightwork.

The pieces along the tops of the doors were optional. Some Mavericks had them and some didn't. They definitely look better without it. It's just too much, and gaudy looking.

I've never seen that trim around the tail lights like that. nope I'm talking about that bottom window chrome that is specified in the picture.

That trim was only found on LDO (Luxury Decor Option) Mavericks.

    Like my old 1974 below.

They did a really crappy job centering the taillights in that chrome or positioning that chrome evenly around the taillights.

Ok so the trim below the window was optional and that's why most cars I see don't have it?

It's about half & half from what I see.

I have a friend who removed his. 'Looks much better without it. I still have mine, but will probably remove it whenever I get around to getting the car painted.
