I've done some search's for carpet installations so I know about Peel & Seal from Lowes but no one mentioned how many rolls they used for just the carpet area, which is what I'd like to know... guess I could break out the tape measure and figure it out... Also I was out and about today and found some foam carpet cushion the type used in construction in a trash/scrap pile and thought about using it as carpet insulation... would it work? has anyone tried it?
agree... whatever you use make sure it's non absorbent... the Peel-N-Seal is a...waterproof...heat shield...soundeadner. ......
Alright, how many rolls would I need for just the carpeted area? I've only found a 6"x300" roll for $16.48, just making a guess of 5'x7' area for the floor pan means I'll need 3 Rolls with a cost of $49.44... Does that sound about right?
2 rolls. It's only supposed to go on the toe and foot boards, and under the back seat. The rest is supposed to get a jute sound deadener. Mine came from A.C.C.

It's according how much sound deadener or insulation you want. I used 3 layers on the firewall and toe board and 2 layers on the floor...plus it took 2 sheets of jute to cover the floor. http://1bad6t.com/Maverick/maverick_34.html
I did read that thread and I think there was only one post that mentions volume of material used but it was for the entire car not just under the floor carpet. At least as good as stock (if you can call that good) maybe a bit better, I'm not looking for total silence in the cab... I do want a heat shield though. If I had the car totally gutted then I might go for a complete and heavy install, but as it stands I only have the interior stripped to the point required to change out the carpet and the old stuff is just that old and next to nothing there. So I'm thinking 1 or 2 layers under the carpeted area, maybe a extra one over the trans tunnel. thank you
I used one layer of Peel & Seal, and covered the main floor area with this: http://www.automotiveinteriors.com/HEAT_SHIELD.htm It actually comes from A.C.C., but less expensive through Automotive Interiors. I like it. I wasn't trying to make it as quiet as a Lincoln or Cadillac. I just wanted to get rid of the nasty old stuff under the carpet. The Peel & Seal is almost as thick as the original tar-paper stuff, and there was a jute backing under the front seats and rear passenger floor area.

first of all, peel and seal isnt great for vibration damping..nor for heat reduction..my bro has dynamat extreme, and it warmed my foot enough to not keepy it set in same spot..(in maverick edge of flootpan/by side of trans tunnel) What are you looking to acomplish.. allot of CLD tiles like dynamat extreme are marketed as sound deadener. CLD tiles like dynamat, secondskin are mainly for vibration dampening/resonance.. and works best for audio related. CLD you also only need to cover 25to 35% of area..anything else is dead weight. it does reduce roadnoise/engine noise and osme heat..but theres better options for both those. to reduce heat, you;'d want a heat barrior matt to reduce airbourne noise you;d want CCF(closed cell foam matting ) and MLV(mass loaded vinyl) works best at cancelling out roadnoise if you dont mind the extra weight and want luxurious silence then you should use a combination of CLD/CCF, and MLV. A heat barrier matting or liquid compound on areas like trans tunnel and toa board and perhaps overlap/blend to some of the frontpan
I disagree. Obviously, there are better (thicker, more expensive) products, but for the money, the Peel & Seal is a good deal. It is the same thickness as what the factory used, and of course you can double it up (some people have triple-layered it). I'm not impressed with Dynamat and some of its competitors. Of course by itself, it's not gonna do a lot, but in conjunction with carpet with a jute backing, it definitely helps to reduce noise and some amount of heat. Of course the heat gets through eventually, but any insulation material will at least reduce it some.

I'm hopeing GTMAT quaddro does well has its CLD with 3/18 thick layer of CCF..surprised none has made a CLD tile with CCF and a layer of MLV.that'll be just about an all in 1 product there..

Peel n Seal does seem to damp vibrations, just not at the main resonant frequency, and only at higher frequencies." all i'm saying is use a product for what its intended for, and dont tile the complete plan in car Frontpan/rearpan ..100% coverage is a waste of time, money, and unneeded weight no matter what brand is used. I still wouldnt recommend Peel n seal..you'd want a butly type product, not a asphalt based for a few reasons.. asphal will most likely smell bad..and sometimes reoccur in high heated days..after time it can dryup and wont work as well at damping the same frequenses it once did. butyl based theirs no smell ever, the bond gets stronger over time which is what you want..dont want something losing its bonding properties and peeling back up on you after time.
