Has anyone else experienced the difference between the undersides of cowls on earlier (package tray) cars versus later (glove box) cars? I am replacing the cowl in my 71 with a cowl that apparently came out of a 74. looking at where my plastic vent duct bolts onto the bottom of the cowl, there appears to be a difference in how the blots and flanges are "clocked". My 71 has Five studs. The 74 only has three studs and the flange/ring is clocked about 15-20 degrees. I can weld in new studs to replace the missing ones, but what should I do about the stud/flange alignment. If I clock my plastic vent to fit my dash, the existing studs on the 74 cowl interfere with the vent mechanism. Has anyone run into this before, and if so... how did you overcome it?
Can you just drill new holes in the flange on the vent assembly? I put a non a/c cowl on a a/c car, so I could have a driver side fresh air vent.
I thought if I did, that one of the studs would land right in the way of the vent cable? That's why I stopped and asked the question. If Jeff did it, then I know it'll work. Thanks for the picture Jeff! Sorry Craig, I thought I saw a 1974 date code stamped on there somewhere. It's kind of funny how they used the same flange, but rotated it when they (Ford) changed to the lower dash with glove box. I will mark and drill the plastic vent assembly and mock that up while I can test fit it to the cowl on the bench. Thanks guys! I wasn't looking forward to taking that cowl hat and flange apart.
Peel and Seal...from my friendly neighborhood Lowes. While I was at it, I relocated the fusebox. See post #28 http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=64243&page=3
me too! Just ran into this last week ('76 dash parts, '71 cowl). it's amazing the differences you discover trying to mix and match different year parts you would assume would be the same...
