Before we rebuilt the 250 on my sister's car we put in a 200 c4 combo that my uncle gave us and it would do 80 on the freeway no problem.
That's good to hear. I haven't how a chance to Get her running yet. just trying to get a Ida how it does normal driving.
Well, it looks like your car originally came with a 250. I seem to remember this debate coming up a while ago. I did a search and found the thread: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=93963&highlight=lug+suspension It appears that the 5-lug was "available" on small bumper 250 cars, but only if it was ordered that way. My bad...
I guess history does repeat it self. I should of looked Harder to find that thread instead of staring the same one. That you for all you help to understanding my car a lot more.
You shouldn't have any trouble keeping up with traffic with the 200. They're no power house, but they'll run with traffic just fine. The 4 lug pattern is 4 x 4.5" I believe. My '72 was originally 4 lug as well. Swapping the front to 5 lug is easy if retaining the drum brakes, all you have to do is bolt a set of 5 lug drums on, or you can get the spindles from a later Maverick or Granada if you want to change it to disc brakes. The rear is a bit more involved, as you have to source and swap in the complete 5 lug rearend, you can't just change the axles. Good luck.
If you're wanting custom rims for your car, check out the early Mustang parts companies. All 6 cylinder Mustangs from 1964 1/2 to 1968 had the same 4 lug rims as the Maverick & Comets. You're not going to find much though unless you want to go modern 16 & up sizes from a custom wheel manufacturer that will drill the rim to any lug pattern you want in the rims. Be fore warned though, custom milled rims are going to cost big money to have made. I hope this helps some, -Scott H.
