Do you have a spot blaster? It would be a good idea to clean all those pitted spots out, as well as you can, then a good coat of epoxy primer. You'll have to remove the headliner to do any welding...any sparks will do a number on a 40 year old headliner...new ones are inexpensive, but Orange might not be too common.
My teacher mentioned bead blasting them but I don't have one and he said I cant do that at school because it would make a mess.I was cleaning them out with a rust remover wheel (like a wire brush) but it didn't clean them all the way.
For the pits on the roof, I would use Eastwood Rust Converter. The Mustang parts house you went to should carry it. -Scott H.
You may be able to pull down the edges of the headliner, and then insert something to block the welding from coming down thru the holes. It is worth a shot to try and save it. In my opinion, you NEED to media blast the entire top of the car. If you don't, the rust WILL come back. It needs to be media blasted, holes welded shut, and epoxy primed all right away. Which means you can't be drivng the car. You should be able to get this all done in one day.
Do I apply the filler on the bare metal first or can I use the filler over the epoxy primer?will there be any adhesion problems if I did this?
The top one, is a knock off of the one I have, and the only reason i bought it was for my roof work. Or the one next to it is nice, since it has a collection system, and will somewhat contain the sand from going everywhere...
