I wanted to see what some have done to get the cars thru emissions... For the most part i think the two options are collector car insurance or an address out of the "city"...

what have most of you done? Ryan?? Pm your suggestion if you don't want to post it up.. thanks

I passed emissions and shortly after pulled off all the smog stuff and installed a new exhaust with no cats. Im pretty much going to have to go collector insurance but most want the car garaged.

Went to the show and there were 15 cars that showed up. The guys that started this are Studebaker guys so there were 3 Studebaker pickups and two sedans. A few Fords and a few Mopars were there also...oddly enough no Chevys. Surprisingly they serve hot breakfast sandwiches, bagels, fruit, pastries and assorted drinks all for free. This is just getting started so hopefully it will grow. It's only once a month but I think I will go to the next one and see if things pick up...plus it's so close to my house. :)

Collector insurance on mine as well. But in all honesty the 72 didn't have much in emission equipment anyway, so it wouldn't be too hard to pass with a fresh motor. I think that the only thing mine originally had was the carbon canister. Of course if you had the California version of this year it might have had some other stuff on it too.

my jalopy is a '76...... so, I havent checked, but a cat may have been part of the equipment... so far it seems collector car insurance is pretty cheap... I dont really care for the actual coverage of the car, but the exceptness of the emissions

Yeah the 76 had a cat. I'm sure of that. I had trouble at first trying to get classic insurance on the Maverick. I tried Haggarty first and they turned me down cold. Told me that my car wasn't collectable enough and that it didn't have enough value. That really turned me against them. But having said that, a ton of people on here have them. Another problem with Haggarty is if you have nitrous on the car (if you use it or not), I've been told that they won't insure you. I went with a smaller company that my insurance agent suggested and it worked out well. They insured me for $100 a year with a few restrictions. My teenage sons were not allowed to drive the car. I had to have a regular car that was insured for daily driving. I had to garage the car. And there was a mileage limit I could drive it. Of course this is collector insurance and they are betting that you are not going to put a lot of miles on it, and if you do you will be extra careful. Anyhow, I started at $4500 agree'd upon value, but I upped that once I had it completed. I had to show them the list of what I had in the car to justify the added value. I think that most insurance companies require stuff like this...I think that it is typical.

No problem. I have mine through my agent at LaRue Insurance (270-358-3101), but the insurance company is Infinity Insurance (1-800-252-5233) in Birmingham, Alabama.
