Today I masked the whole car up, then painted and textured the firewall..... Next week I will be able to get the rear end and springs out from under the back of the car, then start cleaning up the rear under side of the car..... I think post the stock springs and rear in the for sale section to see if there's any interest in them before I have to find a way to dispose of them..... Here's what the firewall looks like, the second pic is a close up to show what the finish looks like.....
No, that's a coat of POR15 for a base..... Then a coat of POR15 Chassis Coat Black and then about 3 light coats textured with the POR15 Chassis Coat Black.....
The work is insane. So much happens in mear hours. This is the area that I couldn't figure out what to do. Where do you paint to when painting the firewall as it goes into the tunnel? Can't wait to see what you do there..
It is actually painted all the way to the firewall/floor pan seam now with texture..... I was jacking the car up to do the underside and then putting it down to do the face of the firewall..... I had previously painted the from the firewall/floor pan seam back to the rear seat seam a while back..... At this time I only did the firewall because I want to put everything back in the goes through the firewall..... Later when I do the V8/turbo install I will have to cut the shock towers back and a couple other things, I will mask off the firewall and paint the rest of the engine compartment then, but I won't have to remove everything from the firewall again.....
The firewall looks terrific, now are you going to do the rest of the engine compartment like that?????
Today I removed the rear end and leaf springs from the car..... I made an insert for my chute mount so I could use my chain fall to lift up the back of the car..... Then I started cleaning up some of the underside..... Here's a before and after of the fenderwells so far.....
3M striping wheels, 2" and 4.5"..... Also some 40 grit film disc I got from Eastwood, I use them on a 5" da pad even though they are 6" to get in the corners better.....
The green ones on the first pic are the same kind I use go gasket removal. I never even thought of trying them for stripping metal because they're kind of expensive.
Today I got everything on the underside pretty well cleaned up and wiped down..... After that I add a rear muffler hanger bracket, welded a few reinforcements to the back of the frame connectors and chute mount crossbar..... Then I trimmed the lip folded over lip off the side of the axle bump stop brackets for tire clearance and welded the seam back up..... I also scuffed the front lower floor pan in preparation for Lizard Skin..... Next week I need to trim and roll the rear fenderwell lips for tire clearance, then I will go over everything one more time and get the underside painted..... Here's the bump stop brackets after modification..... Here's what it's looking like underneath right now.....
Today I got the rear wheel well lips trimmed and rolled for tire clearance..... After that I went over the middle painted area again with scotch brite..... Then I painted the rear and fender well areas with POR15 rust paint..... About the time I was getting wrapped up at the shop I got a call from the upholstery guy to let me know the seats were ready, so I went over to his place and picked them up..... I must say the seats came out really nice..... Here is the rear wheel well lips before and after modification..... Here is the underside all painted and ready for the Lizard Skin(tomorrow's project)..... and here are the newly upholstered seats.....
