what cut outs were you using? I love teh sound of my open headers I hate the idea of putting mufflers on my car but I have to at some point.

why did the cut outs rattle? were they worn out or elcheapos or what?

I'm gonna use a open oil fill cap(no line) with PCV in passenger valve cover... Will basically be what was used on big block & Hi-Po 289 in 1967...

I had Mr. Gasket cable operated cutouts- I dont think they were really that cheap... I have a noticeable difference in torque and throttle response now that the exhaust has been changed. I think the tone is a bit deeper as well since I went to 2.5" pipe instead of the 2.25" I had. The exhaust wasnt very well done previously either- There was a 2" pipe between both reducers and cutouts. I think my previous exhaust guy didnt have any 2.25 at the time or something...

Either way, I prefer the way the car sounds now.. Much deeper tone, quieter in the car and no more exhaust cloud inside the car lol

Massaged the right rear wheel well and decided to use a die grinder with cutoff wheel instead. I got rid of massive 10 inch wide tires and put on 255/70 r-15 and was assured by Big O Tires (the ones whose foot pulled down my wirebundle, see below) they would be no problem and guess what they are a little tall and thus the massaging required above. And hey this pushed me to get new leaf spring, rear shocks, and maybe do a 1 inch shackle lift in back. So well its not all bad. Son loves the look.

Discovered that you can combine wire 8 and 9 on the seatbelt stupid anti start system on the 1974 Comets and bypass that stupid system the Feds made them put on the car for your safety.

    :)

Had my Mopar buddy out to the shop today, we took off the valve covers from my engine and readjusted the valvetrain, runs smoother now and no popping, now just waiting on the Pertronix dizzy to come in.

Didn't do anything to the Maverick but since I am in Phoenix I met Gene Fiore last night at a car show at the K-Mart.............Gene has his Maverick.................it was looking good! Gene had told me that there were going to about 30 cars and there were 150. Always nice to met Gene and talk for awhile.
Then went to a swap meet and met MNTony and his son's and daughter-in-law.....got a great family there. Tony even gave up his seat so this Ole Guy could rest his weary knee (it was a pretty good size meet......with a lot of Chevy stuff and even some Flathead stuff) and we talked for a couple of hours.....and I'll go over to his house later this week to see the Maverick and do some more bench racing.

Had a great time meeting Gene and Tony....................thanks guys!

Yeah he has a 1973 Challenger, I was supervising him so it was ok, he did a fine job adjusting my valvetrain, we have been friends for about 35 or so years, we raced his Charger and my Maverick all the time back in the day, the Charger he had was the one I went 160 MPH in!:thumbs2:
Ohh almost forgot, he volunteered himself for the valve adjustments.

Some of the exhaust valves were a little tight and causing popping out the tailpipes so we backed them off a bit and everthing is fine now.
