That bumper looks like it fits pretty well.

You need lower quarter panel extensions. What is being held up in the picture is WAY too big.

haha, what is held up was the piece of bondo that was underneath the upper extension BEFORE!! :rofl2:
the preowner did some bondo designing without bumper, it must have had tons on it taken off now.

now i need some lower quarter panel extensions... :anyone: :anyone: :anyone:

last week they went on to repair the cowl, but it didnt cam out how i wanted it to be.

inside it was completely rusted, as i expected before, not even the cylinders were existent.
they cut out the bad pieces, and then instead of putting in new parts with cylinders (which i need to put on my heater and fresh air vent) they just welded in some close sheet metal parts.
i told them many times i will reinstall a heater, but the made it simple, closed it and told me then i could use the heater with internal circulation...

so now they have to open it all again and install the intake. another week lost...

and as a plus they cracked the windshield when removing, so ill have to buy a new one...

thanks, but unfortunately they told me before that its possible that it will break.
i wanted them to take it out to repair the cowl and to paint it without windows, so i went with the risk.
and i dont mind to have a new windshield, as the old had a few bad spots and dots...
but another thing that costs money...

the last two weeks, the car made good steps forward. it starts looking as a car again from underneath...

the rear firewall is in and painted to prevent gasoline entering the car in a rear accident.
also it will keep the noise out better as it will be covered with dynamat...
    89_rear_firewall.jpg

the battery tray is in place and just waits to be connected.
still not sure if i should pull the positive cable inside the car or underneath... :anyone:
    90_battery_tray.jpg

the rear bumper got cut and welded to fit better to the car as i didnt like the look of the original bumper
    91_bumper_cut.jpg 92_bumper_cut.jpg

back on its rear wheels, still no engine and interior, so its light and not sitting as low as it will...
    93_car_with_new_bumper.jpg

also the tail panel is cut to put the camaro tail lights in.
this is just a first fitment test, as they will put some kind of chamfer to cover the cut an make the tail light look more OEM as it stiks out of the panel a bit too much as i would like it to be.
    99_tail_panel_cut.jpg 98_rear_view_with_tail_lights.jpg

and finally the 8.8" rear end of the 96 explorer is cut, painted, new bearings, brake pads and ebrake and installed back in the car with all new brake lines and ebrake cables.
the shocks are still the old ones, as the now KYB did not arrive yet.
the leaf spring brakets ar not welded yeat, as the pinion angle will have to be adjusted with the engine in and the car on its wheels...

i like it alot how it looks painted and new lines, makes it look like a car again  :bananaman  :thumbs2:
    94_new_axle.jpg 95_new_axle.jpg

this a closeup of the rear swaybar mount, like this we could use the system how it was in the explorer, just with a custom made (fitting the maverick width) 3/4" swaybar.
    96_rear_sway_bar_mount.jpg

and the UCA are in place as well, painted, new rubber center shaft and roller spring perches.
the springs are painted as well and will be installed this week to get it on its feet again...
    97_uca.jpg

so this is how it looks by now, almost finished with the steel works and ready for its complete new paint.
    100_rear.jpg

still missing is the rear valence, as i have to repair mine, which isnt in perfect shape.
but i didnt found a better one here in mexico, so it will be repaired.
also i will install some special reverse lights and make halfmoon cuts for the exaust pipes...

the engine as well is progressing, its built up till the heads.
mexican block with thick mains, with new forged pistons, 289 rods (longer for better angle), ported heads, bigger valves, roller rockers, edelbrock intake, holley 650 double pumper carb, melling high volume oil pump, arp bolts, 50oz mass...
still missing waterpump, distributor and some more accesories...
hopefully will be good for around 300HP

so, the engine buildup is coming along but im not really happy with it.
he can not really tell me what parts he had used, since 3 month i want a list of all the parts with details, numbers and prices but he doesnt do it.
he says he hasnt got any receipts...
but i want to know exactly what is used.

he cant even tell me if it is 28 or 50oz balanced!
i think its 28 because the engine came from a 80 mustang, but im not sure.
anyone knows how to tell from the balancer or other parts??

    101_motor.jpg 102_motor.jpg

also im not happy with the roller rockers he put on.
he told me to put on some comp cams or crane, now i came to see the engine it got some noname on it.
i searched a bit by the form and found out they are proform extruded 1.6 3/8stud.
anyone got some experiences with them?? did read only bad things...
should i have him to change?
he told me that he never had problems with them and up to the revlimit of 5500 they should be good enough by his view...
but for me they look cheap and the have many dents and color deatils.
he said its normal when installing them, but for me they look as used or very bad treated...

    103_motor.jpg

and anyone got experience of the rev limit of 5500 he gave me?
he says its because the 289 rods would not hold more, is that real?
the engine is set up to be a torque engine and not high HP but 5500 seems pretty low to me...
anyone can give me some opinions / experience? thanks
