I am sure this has been answered some where on here, but I have not found it.
On my 77 Maverick, which is an original 302 Power Disc Brake car, I have replaced the engine with a 89 302 roller motor that has Trick Flo Aluminum heads. Now, there is not enough room for the original P/B Booster.
--- Has anybody come up with a smaller booster set up that they have made work?
--- If I decide to scrap the power breaks and just go with manual disc brakes, what other changes must be made besides dropping the booster?

I dunno on Maverick but I've ditched the booster on Torinos and used a manual master cyl rod in the orig power MC... You could also just swap to the manual MC, but knowing Ford there's a 99.9999% chance the line fittings are different size... I know they are up through '75, as I checked everything there was when deciding on a new MC for the disc brake conversion on my Comet...

Also these days there are several small aftermarket boosters avail, but I doubt you'll find one small enough to fit in the limited space...

I have been checking on the same thing so I could put in a manual tranny and the fitting size is different and the brake peddle is different to change to manual brakes. if you look in what did you do to your maverick today on page 648 some one shows a smaller unit but all the other things need to be changed still

Go to( Adding power brakes to 74 comet ) on this board you will see the booster/master I used and the mods needed to make it word .

The only thing you will need to change is the brake peddle assemble to manual assemble.

If you need any more info pm me

I am running a 7 inch booster from ebay......http://www.ebay.com/itm/140943862505?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 and a ranger m/c...http://www.ebay.com/itm/370742738862?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649.. they fit great, naturally tho, you will have to do some work to get them to fit, but well worth the effort and way cheaper than some of these brake kits you could buy. I drove a manual brake mav the other day and was very hard to get it stopped, cant understand why someone wouldnt want power brakes on their car, I personally want a better driving experience from my older cars, thus the upgrades.

I did save the master cylinder and the brake pedal assembly from my 74 parts car, which was a manual drum brake car.
Do I need to change this under the dash brake pedal assembly if I go with a non power disc brake set up? Is there a difference in the pedal / push rod set up?

ether way you go, if you change to manual or change to the power brake setup of 55crownvic's you have to change the pedal hanger or mount because the factory power brake pedal hangs on the wrong side of the steering column. 55crownvic's set up is the one I was referring to earlier the main difference between the 2 power brake systems is price the one is about 100-125 the other is about 325

So there is room to squeeze one of these boosters and MC between firewall and shock tower with out cutting??? How bout the tower to firewall brace??

That MC will fit the original drum lines only needing a readily avail 7/16 male to to 1/2 female adapter for front brakes(rear section)...

Manual brakes will work fine if you make sure to get the right size MC for your system. I have Granada disk and 10inch rears and had a MC with a 1 inch bore. It was like putting my foot up against a house, I just installed a 86 Ranger MC with a 15/16 bore and it has a smooth feel and stops so much better. I was told I should get a 7/8 bore but couldn't find one that was plastic and I have a pressure bleeder for the plastic so thats why I went with a 15/16. Just make sure it's sized right

John, I think the power brake arm, is different than the non power brake arm. I've never had a Maverick newer than 75, but I'm sure Craig would know for sure.

Yes, there is almost an inch of clearance between the tower and the end of the M/C, will try and get pics up tomorrow. Will check the clearance of the braces also tomorrow. I have to make new braces for my setup anyway, because I am running a 5.0 EFI motor and the intake plenum is in the way to run the stock braces.

Thank you guys for your information. You have given me some options to choose from and I do appreciate it very much.
Dave, you say you have never had a Maverick newer than a 75, well I have never even ridden in a Maverick, let alone drive one. This is my first Tango and that is why I am full of questions.

The brake pedal AND pedal support will have to be changed.

I guess I should have taken you for a ride, last time you were over. But then again, you might just abandon your project once you ride in one.....:biglaugh:
