ok so last weekend after a week long hard negotiation that didnt go a single dollar in my favor I ended up coming home with a CLEAN white 72 comet gt for the sum of $1800

all week I wanted to work on it but work had other ideas so this weekend we hit it pretty hard.

I got it stripped in preparation for paint. well it was painted 3 years ago and never reassembled.

    yesterday the reassembly started.
we got the splash pan on in the back
the front stone guard and valance splash pan whatever you call it on
    we put on both bumpers.
put on new valve cover gaskets
    changed the distributor.
swapped some old junk mismatched stock rollers for a set of 15"x7" front and maybe 15"x10" rear american racing torque thrust style wheels and tires (I bought for an extra $175 from the same guy I bought the car from)
bought new black acorn style lug nuts for the wheels.
    changed the radiator
put trans fluid in it and drove it for the first time
now today we got all of the marker light frames cleaned up and painted gloss black and installed
we also installed the bucket seats
installed door latches so I could stop slamming the door against the body lol
bolted down the gt hood scoop (my 11 year old son jr whos not into actually working on cars did this. I was a proud pappa)
jr got to drive his first comet today. he drove the car most of the way down the block home. he said his knees were shaking when he got out :biglaugh::thumbs2:
painted tail light frames gloss black
    cleaned up the tail lights
    got tail lights installed
    painted sport mirrors gloss black
me and my little girl alexandra age 6 sanded my crappy paint job off of the sport mirrors so we can repaint them tomorrow.

didnt get alot done today as we were dragging all day for some reason.

goal for tomorrow is to finish bolting down bucket seats install back seat. install 1/4 windows install window winders and interior door handles check charging system change carb and check rockers and valve lash to figure out the sluggish response and popping through the carb like a stuck valve or something reset timing

I bought this car as an upgrade from my black one and had planned on building this car around the new stroker motor Im having built but Ive decided I like it as is and plan to make it a dependable fun driver rather than a hp monster. Ill leave the big power up to the black car and have decided that I will not be doing any body work as planned to the black one since it will be more of a race only car

Im going to start a new photo bucket album to track the progress as it comes along

Wow! Really great starting point for a nice build. Is the photo of the car on the trailer the way you got it?

okay this car has been on the back burner for a while but I still have it and love it.

I did manage to swap the wheels and tires with a little help from my 5 year old daughter alexandra. got the marker lights in after cleaning the frames up and painting them gloss black. we put the bumpers on. I sanded and painted the tail light frames gloss black. painted the grill gloss black.

we put the windows in and even threw in a set of raggedy bucket seats I had waiting for just the right car

we recently took the front valance off to change the bumper brackets but it will go back on in a couple of days.

yesterday we got a big box of dynomat laid in the car but it was just not quite enough. so today I ordered some more dynomat and they gave me some acusound stuff and said it was more expensive but they could give it to me for the same price since they were out of dynomat. I said okay since it comes with a warranty.
well I tried the first sheet and whatta ya know it doesnt stick worth a crap. edges peeling back and the center is lifting. the stuff is junk.:naughty: tomorrow Im going to pull it up and take it back and ask for my money back. NO WONDER IT WAS $80 CHEAPER THAN EBAY.
dynomat is sticking so much that the little bit of the tar that was sticking out from under a piece or two here and there was grabbing hold of my pants when I was trying to install that other junk. that dynomat will stick to anything Im definitely sticking with dynomat for anything else like this I need in the future. money well spent. expensive but IT GETS THE JOB DONE.:thumbs2:

also today mike took the intake manifold timing cover water pump radiator and harmonic balancer off to make way for a new to this car cam.

the cam is coming from my black car since I blew the motor and wont be using any of the parts I could save on the new stroker I might as well upgrade the gt.
I got the new lifters in from the machine shop today cost me $50 with tax

all of the gaskets are under warranty and in stock at autozone so it should be up and running again by the end of the day tomorrow

all of this and I STILL HAVENT PUT THE DOOR HANDLES ON YET :slap:

I gotta get a stand alone pic of this car yet. it feels good to be making progress on this car again

okay got the cam in and it sounds GREAT!
I cant wait to get my other intake on there to see how much difference an air gap style intake makes if any.
I will pick up my intake from the powder coating shop monday its going to be satin black with a texture in it
